Job description

You hold the view that refusing to lower standards is the most compassionate approach to working with students. Your background includes competing, building, or performing at a level unfamiliar to most: elite-level sports, graduation with distinction from a top-ranked institution, employment at a highly competitive firm, or a venture you launched and grew independently. Now imagine channeling that same rigor into a space filled with K-12 learners who have never encountered someone of your caliber advocating for them and holding them to expectations they did not believe achievable. If the notion of maintaining elite standards for students strikes you as unreasonable, this is not the role for you.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction to enable students to complete core academic work in roughly two hours per day. The remainder of the day is allocated to developing life skills, pursuing passion projects, and fostering meaningful personal development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They require a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments exemplify excellence: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing cultural norms, and guiding students through moments of resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

Your responsibility is not instruction. AI manages the delivery of academic content. Your responsibility is to inspire, coach, and uphold the same exacting standards you have applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time is spent in direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions that identify obstacles and establish challenging objectives. Another forty percent involves facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for skill acquisition, not engagement for its own sake. The final twenty percent is dedicated to leading morning kickoff sessions that cultivate a campus culture intolerant of mediocrity.

The progression in this role emphasizes depth rather than scope. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning the trust of students. Within a few months, you become the individual they rely on to challenge them beyond perceived limits. The value is not in advancement. It is in continuity with the same students, year over year, as they mature with your guidance. It is in observing a student who struggled with eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to a room of adults in May.

This position remains student-centered. Students are the objective, not a stepping stone toward another opportunity.

What You Will Be Doing

• Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify barriers, establish ambitious objectives, and ensure student accountability
• Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for skill mastery, drawing on credible narratives from your own elite background, and evaluating mastery via Alpha's Test2Pass framework
• Establishing campus-wide cultural expectations each morning through focused kickoff sessions that reinforce high-performance norms
• Monitoring student development in real time and refining coaching approaches based on evidence rather than intuition
• Cultivating trusted mentor relationships with students and their families through consistent application of high standards and documented motivation strategies

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Delivering lessons, creating curriculum, or grading student work — Alpha's AI-powered academic platform manages instruction; your focus is on motivation
• Presenting to large classroom groups of 30 students (your work centers on high-touch coaching with individuals and small groups, not large-format teaching)
• Supervising other staff members or pursuing advancement through administrative channels (this role prioritizes direct student impact over organizational hierarchy)
• Participating in faculty meetings or navigating institutional bureaucracy (your time remains allocated to student-facing work)
• Compromising standards to meet performance indicators (if a student achieves 99%, your task is to determine what prevented 100%)

Elite Performance Coach Key Responsibilities

Lead outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill acquisition at Alpha's most demanding campuses.

Basic Requirements

• Bachelor's degree
• At least one instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized domain (examples: national or international competition medals, top-tier university with distinction, highly selective firm or fellowship, elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
• At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership roles where you measurably raised others' performance
• Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Orange County, CA; Palo Alto, CA; San Francisco, CA; South Bay, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Kirkland (Seattle), WA (relocation support provided)
• Legal right to work in the United States

Nice-to-have Requirements

• Background in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with experience coaching or mentoring younger athletes
• Experience in high-accountability environments like management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
• Track record of youth development through mentoring in non-academic settings (community organizations, after-school programs, sports camps)
• Comfort presenting to and building trust with high-expectation families paying premium private school tuition
