Job summary

Federal Air Marshals within the Transportation Security Administration recruit and deploy officers to protect commercial aviation from terrorism and other threats. This role requires discretion, physical readiness, firearms proficiency, and the ability to work independently in high-pressure environments.

Portland-based assignments involve domestic and international travel, irregular schedules, and the potential for short-notice deployments.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible experience or a bachelor’s degree or higher, or a qualifying combination of education and experience
• Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national
• Must pass background investigation, drug screening, polygraph, and obtain security clearance

Responsibilities

• Protect commercial passenger flights from terrorist activity, aircraft piracy, and other threats
• Work discreetly aboard domestic and international flights
• Assess situations and respond to threats with limited backup
• Carry a firearm and maintain required firearms proficiency
• Conduct law enforcement, investigative, analytical, and advisory activities
• Identify and interview witnesses or suspects as needed
• Make arrests and seek warrants within legal authority
• Participate in multi-agency operations with federal, state, and local partners
• Support ground-based transportation-security and counterterrorism missions
• Perform other specialized assignments including Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems operations
