Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate.
• Must be highly qualified.
• Goverened by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the Tennessee Board of Education.

Responsibilities

• Administers and develops subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, student's achievements, developing methods for improvement, and reinforcing classroom goals at home.
• Assesses student progress towards standards, expectations, and goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
• Collaborates with instructional staff and varying stakeholders to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
• Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem solving techniques and personal issues.
• Differentiates methods to address individual student requirements and provides an effective program.
• Instructs students to improve success in academics through a defined course of study.
• Manages student behavior for a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitors students in various educational environments for safety and positive learning.
• Participates in meetings and professional development to perform functions.
• Prepares written materials documenting student progress and mandated requirements.
• Reports incidents for safety and adherence to state law and board policies.
• Responds to emergencies/outright safety concerns and directs to appropriate personnel.
• Directs teacher assistants and other staff to provide an effective classroom program.
• Performs other duties as assigned and supports colleagues in curriculum implementation.
• Demonstrates integration of technology across curriculum and pursues professional development.
