Job summary

The School City of Hammond is seeking qualified teachers to plan, deliver, and assess instruction for groups and individuals across multiple grades. You will advise students in community internships, work experiences, and academic activities to support growth and achievement.

Responsibilities include developing curriculum, posting syllabi and grades, maintaining a conducive classroom, and communicating progress to families and staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required.
  • Must hold valid Indiana State Teacher's License or be eligible for a license for corresponding age/grade level.
  • 2 years of teaching experience preferred? (from duties and requirements)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships effectively with families and students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum to meet developmental goals and instructional activities.
  • Post syllabus, projects, lessons, and grades to the server accessible to students, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain a classroom environment in line with codes of conduct and supportive of learning.
  • Use rubric-based assessments to evaluate student progress and adapt programs.
  • Communicate with families and staff about student progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Provide progress reports as required and engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborate with other staff to improve instructional programs and school operations.
  • Ensure a safe, thriving environment for all students in the classroom and on campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Functions

The teacher will plan, carry out, evaluate, and supervise instructional activities in subject area for groups and individual students. The teacher will also advise students in community internships, work experience, and academic activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop curriculum to meet developmental goals and instructional activities
  • Use procedures to post syllabus, projects/lessons, and grades to the server accessible to students, parents, and the community
  • Maintain a classroom environment consistent with established codes of conduct and conducive to positive learning
  • Use rubric‑based authentic assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adapt individual programs to meet student needs
  • Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co‑workers, supervisors, and other school staff
  • Measure progress and accomplishments of students towards their academic achievements on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Communicate electronically with students, parents, and other staff members concerning student academic progress, attendance, and behavior
  • Attend conferences and workshops in order to further advance professional development
  • Work cooperatively with other personnel to improve instructional programs and the overall operation of the school
  • Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in the classroom and on the school campus
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
