Responsibilities

  • Teach Grade 4 using curricula adopted by Westfield Public Schools.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter per state regulations.
  • Develop lesson plans and provide differentiated instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Evaluate student progress and maintain records and progress reports.
  • Establish positive behavior standards and communicate with parents about student progress.
  • Collaborate with staff to address health, social/emotional and learning needs.
  • Create engaging learning environments and display student work.
  • Administer benchmark assessments and analyze data to plan instruction.

Job Description

Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a Grade 4 Teacher.

Job Summary
  • Teach students utilizing a course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum programs as resources in teaching individual course content.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide differentiated and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, social/emotional, and learning difficulties.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and work centers.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional materials.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  • Administer benchmark assessments and standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  • Analyze student data and utilize results to plan instruction.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.

Reports to: Building Principal

Salary: $50,000 to $99,440 per year (commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract).

Position Type: Full-time

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.

Job Requirements
  • Current and valid license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Elementary (1-6).

  • Dual certified in moderate disabilities or ESL preferred.
  • Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
