Gaarde Christian School (GCS) was founded in 1967 as a ministry of Faith Journey Church and has since been successfully educating students in the southwest Portland Metro area. We are registered with the State of Oregon Department of Education and are an active member of the Association of Christian Schools International. Our teachers are valuable members of our team and have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum selection and course design. Our school is growing, and we are looking for dedicated teachers to join our team.

Gaarde Christian School seeks skilled, professional, and knowledgeable individuals for a variety of elementary positions. The positions will provide classroom instruction to students following Gaarde Christian School standards. Teachers will promote curiosity, creativity, and the exploration of ideas and concepts while fostering an appreciation for lifelong learning. In addition to the qualifications below, candidates agree to grow and develop as a professional while supporting the GCS mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BA/BS in related area
• Licensed to teach in Oregon or licensed in another state & working on Oregon license
• Ability to interact appropriately with a diverse array of students, coworkers, family members; ability to teach diverse group of students effectively
• Ability to pass a background check

Desired Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Education
• Experience teaching grade/subject

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Teach grade/subject utilizing best practices and standards-based scope and sequence
• Knowledge of educational technology; openness to innovations, willingness to learn, ability to integrate biblical and global competence into the curriculum
• Interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate, work effectively on teams, and maintain collegial relations with colleagues
• Written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey complex information about students to families in an appropriate and sensitive manner
• Organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines
