Job summary

Archdiocese of Detroit is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support teachers, students, and families in a Catholic school setting. You will help with general classroom tasks, technology, and supervision to promote the spiritual, educational, and social development of students.

The role requires excellent communication skills, organizational ability, discretion, and the capacity to handle multiple duties in a Catholic education environment.

Qualifications

• Must have strong commitment to Catholic education and model behavior.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and organized; a team player.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proficiency in computer technology including Microsoft Office and related software; ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Must successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
• Professional bearing and neat personal appearance.
• Understand and abide by Archdiocese of Detroit contract terms.

Responsibilities

• Supervises groups of students as directed by the teacher for writing, skills, testing, and projects.
• Assists individual children with make-up work after an absence.
• Sorts mail, distributes materials, corrects assignments, and aids bulletin boards and hallway displays as requested.
• Assists with audio-visual equipment, computer and technology.
• Notifies the teacher of unusual situations or potential problems encountered during duties.
• Assists students to the bathroom and to specials as needed.
• Assists during dismissal with car/bus duties as designated by Faculty Council.
• Recognizes and supports children needing physical, emotional, and social encouragement.
• Maintains confidentiality when dealing with parents and refers inquiries to the classroom teacher.
• Performs other duties as assigned by teacher, assistant principal, or principal.
• Supports and enforces all school policies.
• Attends required school meetings and events.
• Understands and signs Archdiocese of Detroit employment contract requirements.
