Job summary

Taconic Hills Central School District is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students in grades K–6. The position emphasizes IEP development, inclusive instruction, and collaboration with general educators, specialists, and families to foster academic and social progress.

The role requires state certification in Special Education, a Grade 1–6 credential (Birth–Grade 2 preferred), and ability to work in a structured, supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • State certification in Special Education.
  • Grade 1–6 teaching certificate; Birth–Grade 2 preferred.
  • Ability to work with students with disabilities and families.
  • Knowledge of best practices in special education instruction and assessment.
  • Experience with assistive technology and specialized equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement IEPs for students with disabilities.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate, specially designed instruction for K–6.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers.
  • Support students in least restrictive environment.
  • Participate in evaluations, progress reports, and annual reviews.
  • Establish a structured, supportive classroom environment.
  • Provide direct instruction in various subject areas.
  • Monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Communicate with parents regularly about progress.
  • Participate in behavior intervention plan development for K–6.
  • Be part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attend IEP meetings and related meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, behavior, and attendance.

Job description

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Valid state teaching certification in Special Education

  • Grade 1-6 teaching certification (along with Birth – Grade 2 preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students with disabilities and their families

  • Knowledge of best practices in special education instruction and assessment

  • Experience with assistive technology and other specialized equipment


Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities

  • Provide developmentally appropriate, specially designed instruction that supports early literacy, language development, social-emotional skills, and foundational learning for students in grades K–6.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, teaching assistants, and related service providers to support students within the least restrictive environment.

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support students’ academic, behavioral, and social development.

  • Assist with evaluations, progress reports, and documentation required for annual reviews and reevaluations.

  • Establish a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior, engagement, and independence.

  • Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities in a range of subject areas

  • Monitor and track student progress and make adjustments to instruction as needed

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and solicit input

  • Participate in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans for students with disabilities Grades K-6

  • Job responsibilities are inclusive of all aspects of the special education continuum (co-taught, resource room, direct/indirect consultant)

  • Attend IEP meetings and other meetings related to the education of students with disabilities

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and attendance


Other Information

Hours:7.25 hoursper day, 10months per year


Master's Degree Stipend: $900 per year


Stipend per Grad Credit: $50 per credit, per year
