Responsibilities

  • Assist individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Help devise strategies for reinforcing lessons based on student needs.
  • Monitor work, correct papers, and supervise tests and makeup work.
  • Perform clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties.
  • Alert staff to problems or important information about students.
  • Supervise students during lunch, play, and field trips.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct in school and community.
  • Participate in in-service training as approved.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment and promote safety.
  • Perform other duties as directed by certified staff.
  • Record yearly professional development hours; support district goals.
  • Work well as part of a team serving all constituencies.
  • Meet deadlines and comply with administration and state laws.
  • Attend meetings as requested by building and district administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality as required by law.
  • Pursue lifelong learning and growth.
  • Assume other related duties as assigned.

Elementary Special Education Paraprofessional

Job Description

*Paraprofessional applicants are required to have completed at minimum 60 college hours and/or passed the Paraprofessional test and/or completed the 20 hour online substitute teacher training program in order to apply. These transcripts or test results are required to be submitted with the application.*

According to Board Policy GDBA: The district will recognize up to ten years of similar, previous experience of an employee when placing that employee on the salary schedule. The highest step a classified staff employee may enter the district is at step 11 of the salary schedule.

CLASSIFICATION: Classified

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1. Valid Missouri paraprofessional certificate and/or a minimum of 60 college credit hours and Missouri substitute
    teaching certificate required
  • 2. Bachelor’s degree and appropriate Missouri teaching certification preferred, not required
  • 3. Criminal justice fingerprint and background clearance
  • 4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or Superintendent may find appropriate
  • 5. Coaching experience not required, but preferred

JOB GOAL: To assist and support teachers and students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
  • 2. Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic
    understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • 3. Monitors work, corrects papers, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff.
  • 4. Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified staff.
  • 5. Alerts the certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • 6. Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips.
  • 7. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
  • 8. Participates in in-service training programs as approved.
  • 9. Maintains safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school- related duties.
  • 10. Performs other such duties / assignments as directed by the certified staff.
  • 11. Effectively collects and maintains evidence of yearly professional development hours.
  • 12. Works well as a team member to serve all constituencies.
  • 13. Adheres to and follows all deadlines and requirements as presented by administration / state / federal law.
  • 14. Attends all meetings as requested by building and district administration.
  • 15. Maintains strict confidentiality as required by law.
  • 16. Commits to lifelong learning and growth.
  • 17. Performs any and all other related duties as assigned building and district administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Board approved academic calendar + 2 days with applicable health and life insurance. Classified salary schedule to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
