Job summary

Staunton City Schools is hiring a Special Education Instructional Assistant at Bessie Weller Elementary School for the 2026-27 year. Immediate start with a full benefits package and 186-day contract. The assistant collaborates with teachers to implement IEPs and instructional plans in a supportive classroom setting.

Responsibilities include assisting with instruction, preparing teaching aids, and promoting a safe, positive environment while meeting regulatory requirements and school policies.

Qualifications

• Basic reading, writing and computation skills required.
• Experience working with groups of children preferred.
• Must be in good physical and emotional health.
• Must be at least 18 years old and of good character.
• Background check and proper training are required for employment.
• High School Diploma or GED; elementary paraprofessional qualifications required.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers with instruction and classroom management.
• Provide 1:1 support and group assistance as directed.
• Prepare teaching aids and assist with lesson materials.
• Help maintain a safe, orderly classroom environment.
• Support students and staff during school activities and field trips.
