BARBOUR COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION seeks an Elementary School Counselor to deliver high‑quality counseling and guidance for students, under the supervision of the Principal and Director of Student Services. Responsibilities include classroom counseling, collaboration with teachers, and guiding students through transitions and assessments.

The role emphasizes confidentiality, professional growth, and active participation in school and state programs to support student learning and development.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited university.
• Knowledge of guidance principles, child growth and development theory, testing and measurement, counseling, and guidance administration.
• Valid Alabama teaching certificate.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act.
• Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Ability to manage budgets and develop programming for middle school students.
• Ability to use technology to communicate, plan, instruct, and manage data.
• Commitment to attendance and punctuality.
• Alternative qualifications may be required by the Board.

Responsibilities

• Conducts classroom counseling and guidance activities with staff for each grade level.
• Consults with teachers to integrate counseling into the curriculum.
• Collaborates with school personnel to assist transitions to middle/high school.
• Provides orientation for new students and parents.
• Uses technology to plan instruction and report data.
• Communicates test results and implications to students and parents.
• Plans and participates in school and state assessment programs.
• Conducts structured counseling sessions to address student needs.
• Plans staff development and parent education programs.
• Maintains confidentiality per laws and policies.
