Job summary

Palmer River Elementary School, part of the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District, is seeking a dedicated Recess and Lunch Monitor. This part-time role focuses on supervising students during lunch and recess, maintaining a safe and orderly environment, and promoting respectful, cooperative behavior.

The successful candidate will work approximately 3 hours per day, follow school rules, and collaborate with the principal and assistant principal.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience working with children in school, childcare, recreation, or related setting preferred.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with elementary-age students.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor students during lunch and recess periods.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of students in the cafeteria, playground, and other designated areas.
• Promote good manners, respectful behavior, sportsmanship, and cooperative play among students.
• Circulate throughout assigned areas to actively supervise students and provide assistance as needed.
• Address minor student concerns and reinforce school expectations and rules.
• Refer significant behavioral concerns to the classroom teacher, principal, or assistant principal in accordance with school procedures.
• Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the playground and lunch areas.
• Dismiss students and classes in a safe and orderly manner at scheduled times.
• Report accidents, injuries, safety hazards, or other concerns to school administration promptly.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, and families as appropriate.
• Participate in required training and meetings related to student supervision and safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal.
