Job summary

The classroom teacher will create a flexible, developmentally appropriate environment where children can demonstrate personal growth, social skill, and language development as well as academic skills in elementary choral music class.

The position requires coordinating fall, winter, and spring performances and participating in district initiatives such as school improvement teams, PLCs, PBS, Leader-in-Me, and curriculum committees, while maintaining confidentiality and regular attendance.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Michigan Department of Education Teaching Certificate with a Music Education JQ or JX endorsement.
• Ability to effectively work with staff, students and parents.
• Familiarity with orchestra, concert band, and marching band preferred.

Responsibilities

• Application of instructional best practices in education and specific content area.
• Use available technology in day-to-day presentation of lessons.
• Control of classroom through the use of classroom management best practices.
• Take an active role in District and school initiatives such as school improvement teams, professional learning communities, PBS, Leader-in-Me, curriculum committee, etc.
• Incorporate State content expectations in all lessons.
• Follow District curriculum.
• Assess students and analyze needs and progress.
• Maintain appropriate records.
• Helps maintain instructional area, supplies, equipment and facilities.
• Participate in special instructional activities to meet program and student goals.
• Coordinates fall, winter, and spring performances.
• Supports several key school and district events (Celebrate Wayne, graduation, parades, etc.).
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
