Job summary

McKay Elementary School in Fitchburg, Massachusetts seeks Long Term Substitute Grade 3 teachers for the 2026-27 school year beginning January 4, 2027. Substitutes will cover classes in the absence of the classroom teacher and support student learning with district-aligned instruction.

Responsibilities include delivering lessons, meeting with students and families, collaborating with colleagues, and following district policies.

Qualifications

• An associate degree or 48 credits from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Massachusetts license preferred.
• Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations.
• Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to effectively problem solve.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders.
• Commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and positive environment in place of the teacher or paraprofessional.
• Monitor and supervise students, through effective classroom management.
• Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
• Implement lesson plans.
• Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies including the effective use of technologies to increase student learning.
• Follow district policies when working with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Guide learning to achieve curriculum standards and establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Differentiate instruction and provide opportunities using RTI framework.
• Implement district mission and instructional standards.
• Maintain accurate records as required by policy and regulation.
• Follow a schedule to meet and instruct assigned students.
• Assist administration with policies and rules for student life and conduct.
• Establish open communication with students, colleagues, and parents about progress.
• Promote equity and appreciation of diversity for all learners, including 504 plans and ELs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
