Job summary

Richland County School District One is seeking an Instructional Assistant (Hourly) at SatchelfOrd Elementary in Columbia, SC. Working hours are 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM under regular supervision to assist teachers and support a well-organized classroom environment.

The role involves small-group and individual support, test administration and grading, basic health assistance, Braille transcription support, computer instruction, and classroom equipment management.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with exercises and preparation of materials for class activities; concentrates efforts with small groups and individuals as necessary.
• Reinforces knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
• Administers and grades tests, records grades, substitutes as needed, escorts children to other areas of the school, and monitors student behavior.
• Assists in reading exercises with kindergarten/elementary students; participates in free play; assists with basic health needs and may accompany individuals to lavatories.
• May assist in teaching, correcting and transcribing Braille; serves as a liaison between school and parents; translates to parents and students.
• May operate computers and provide basic computer instructional assistance to students; may manage a computer lab including enrolling students and maintaining records.
• Creates bulletin board displays; assists in maintaining student records and data entry; prepares transparencies, charts, graphs and duplicated materials; operates AV equipment.
• Assists in cleaning and storing materials after activities; supervises students during unloading/loading buses, in halls, on field trips, lunch, and school grounds.
• Participates in staff development; interacts with supervisor, teachers, students, parents, colleagues, school admins and district personnel.
• Complies with all federal laws, state statutes, board policies, administrative rules and directives.
