Job summary

Portland Public Schools seeks an ESOL Teacher to join Ocean Ave Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. The ESOL Teacher will provide rigorous English language instruction aligned with the WIDA standards and the Common Core for MLs and DLLs, including newcomers.

The successful candidate will collaborate with general education teachers, lead language development efforts, and use data to tailor supports for multilingual learners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required.
• SIOP training and/or experience with Multilingual Learners preferred.
• Maine State Teacher Certificate with ESOL Endorsement (660) required or eligible.
• Fluency in languages other than English is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide and support English language instruction aligned with the WIDA English Language Proficiency standards and Common Core.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to enhance acquisition of English across all language domains.
• Provide ongoing staff development on language development and sheltered instruction.
• Use school and student data to inform instruction and programming for MLs/DLLs.
