Job summary

Memphis Business Academy Hickory Hill Middle School in Memphis, TN seeks dedicated teachers to deliver standards-aligned instruction and lead students toward grade-level mastery. You will collaborate with the principal, academic team, and network leaders to develop rigorous curricula, assessments, and targeted interventions, while reflecting on practice through professional feedback.

Qualifications

  • Technological proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High level of personal organization and planning.
  • Minimum of one year working in urban education with gains in student performance.
  • Bi-lingual (desired).
  • Ability to work with diverse learning abilities in a heterogeneously grouped classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Create standards-aligned curriculum including maps, unit plans, and lesson plans; develop interim, midterm, and final assessments as needed.
  • Develop and implement ambitious, standards-aligned lesson plans targeted with end goal of student performance at or above grade level expectations.
  • Provide engaging, motivating, and rigorous instruction in whole-class and individual settings.
  • Attend all Professional Learning Community Meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Provide academic support and tutoring to small groups or individual students.
  • Work to continuously improve effectiveness in all instructional practices, using teacher evaluation rubric as a guide.
  • Analyze student achievement data in collaboration with the academic team.
  • Implement data tracking system and use data to inform instructional development and delivery.
  • Enter student performance data in a timely manner.
  • Complete all administrative requirements before deadlines.
  • Teach and enforce school-wide systems, rules and consequences, disciplinary codes, and rewards at all times.
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with students and families.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and participate in professional development and learning activities.
  • Participate in field trips, monitoring of designated sporting events, and other programs as needed throughout year.

Job description

Position Overview

Teachers are entrusted with advancing the mission of Memphis Business Academy. Reporting to the Principal and various network administrators, teachers are responsible for the development and execution of a standards‑aligned curriculum, continuous improvement of their instructional practices based on feedback, support, and adequate intellectual preparation on their part, and collaboration on areas of instructional and/or curricular need at the school. Teachers will be held accountable by the Principal, Chief Academic Officers and other network administrators in regard to their performance and growth, student achievement, and quality of delivery of instruction. The Teacher is a full‑time position with an immediate start date.

Essential Functions Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment

Create standards‑aligned curriculum including curriculum maps, unit plans, and lesson plans; develop interim, midterm, and final assessments as needed

Develop and implement ambitious, standards‑aligned lesson plans targeted with end goal of student performance at or above grade level expectations

Provide engaging, motivating, and rigorous instruction in whole‑class and individual settings

Attend all Professional Learning Community Meetings and professional development sessions

Provide academic support and tutoring to small groups or individual students as needed

Work to continuously improve effectiveness in all instructional practices, using school's teacher performance evaluation rubric as a guide

Use feedback to make productive changes in performance

Administrative

Analyze student achievement data in collaboration with the academic team

Implement data tracking system and use data to inform instructional development and delivery

Enter in student performance data in a timely manner

Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines

Culture

Teach and enforce school‑wide systems, rules and consequences, disciplinary codes, and rewards at all times

Communicate regularly and proactively with students and families

Collaborate with other staff members and actively participate in all professional development and learning activities

Participate in additional activities including field trips, monitoring of designated sporting events, and other required programs as needed throughout year

Report to work daily with a positive and solutions oriented attitude and demeanor

Education and Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree (preferred)
  • Tennessee Professional Educator License (preferred)
  • Eligibility for Tennessee Professional Educator License (required)
  • Content area certification (preferred)
Experience and Skills:
