Purpose Statement:
In accordance with the Santa Cruz County Healthy Student Project, the elementary counselor will assist all students develop skills in personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development. This is a grant-funded position with a grant period of three years; the expected end date is May 2018.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills: Adhere to safety practices, analytical skills, applying assessment instruments, interpersonal skills, operating standard office equipment, planning and managing projects, maintaining accurate records, and promoting a child-centered environment.
Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); reading manuals; writing documents; presenting information; analyzing situations; bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful; computer operation; grammar and punctuation; relevant codes, policies, regulations and laws; stages of child development.
Abilities: Schedule activities, gather and classify data, work with diverse groups, analyze data, operate equipment, communicate with diverse groups and students, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, and plan instructional goals in collaboration with a team. Capabilities include adapting curriculum, assessing learning outcomes, and problem solving with data and equipment.
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision, guiding others, and operating within a defined budget; utilizing resources from other units as needed.
The typical physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and some fine finger dexterity. The position typically involves 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing in a generally clean and healthy environment.
