Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in administering, scoring, and recording tests as recommended for individual students.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
• Devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on students’ needs, interests and abilities.
• Operate and care for classroom equipment used for instructional purposes.
• Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
• Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
• Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.
• Supervise students during drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Maintain up-to-date bulletin boards and classroom displays.
• Assist with large group activities like drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
• Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in oral communication with students.
• Assist students in the library or media center.
• Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work.
• Record student attendance and collection of money.
• Assist students with clothing, lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
• Support wash-up and toilet routines as needed.
• Inform the regular teacher of any problems or information about a student.
• Serve as a key information source for substitutes and maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in professional development activities as assigned.
