EISENHOWER - Joliet Public Schools District 86 in Joliet, Illinois is seeking an Elementary Choir Director. This 9-month, internal staff position conducts regular rehearsals, selects repertoire, and prepares students for concerts, festivals, and community performances.

Responsibilities include coordinating auditions, collaborating with building music teachers and the Fine Arts Coordinator on scheduling, and maintaining high standards of behavior and musical excellence across all activities.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid state teaching license/certification in Music Education.
• Experience directing ensembles such as choir, band, or orchestra.
• Strong conducting and rehearsal technique skills.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate repertoire and pedagogy.
• Ability to organize concerts, rehearsals, auditions, and performances.
• Strong communication and collaboration with students, families, and staff.
• Demonstrated professional behavior.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct regular rehearsals for the ensemble.
• Select appropriate repertoire that supports growth and performance success.
• Prepare students for concerts, festivals, and community events.
• Coordinate auditions, placement, and ensemble membership procedures.
• Collaborate with building music teachers and Fine Arts Coordinator on scheduling and participation.
• Maintain high musical and behavioral expectations for all students.
• Create an inclusive, engaging rehearsal environment.
• Communicate schedules, expectations, and event information promptly.
• Monitor attendance and progress within the ensemble.
• Organize and manage music, equipment, uniforms, and materials.
• Support recruitment and retention efforts for district music programs.
• Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, preparedness, and collaboration.
• Follow district policies and safety during rehearsals and travel.
• Attend district music meetings and performances.
• Represent the district’s Fine Arts program positively.
