Job Title: Classroom Teacher Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Building Principal Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale

Dept./School: Assigned Campus Days: 187

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for the subject/level assigned

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of subjects assigned
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated, organized, reliable, adaptable
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Experience:

• Student teaching or approved internship preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Develop and implement plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum requirements, with written evidence of preparation
2. Prepare lessons accommodating different learning styles
3. Present subject matter according to TEA guidelines, board policies, and regulations
4. Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials tailored to students’ learning needs
5. Assess student learning styles and use results to inform instruction
6. Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula per IEPs
7. Coordinate with staff to determine instructional goals and methods
8. Supervise teacher aide(s) and volunteers
9. Integrate technology into teaching
10. Assist students in improving study habits
11. Assess and report on student progress regularly
12. Participate in extracurricular activities and sponsor approved outside activities
13. Model positive behavior and support school mission
14. Create a conducive learning environment
15. Manage student behavior per policies
16. Ensure safety and proper use of equipment and materials
17. Assist in selecting instructional materials
18. Maintain communication with students, parents, and staff
19. Maintain professional relationships and participate in staff development
20. Comply with regulations and policies
21. Maintain records and reports
22. Attend meetings and serve on committees
23. Display professionalism, reliability, and friendliness
24. Communicate effectively and respond promptly to communications

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervise teacher aides
• Mentor student teachers

Working Conditions:

Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent physical activities include standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other materials.
