Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for the subject/level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, organized, reliable, adaptable
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience:
- Student teaching or approved internship preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum requirements, with written evidence of preparation
- Prepare lessons accommodating different learning styles
- Present subject matter according to TEA guidelines, board policies, and regulations
- Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials tailored to students’ learning needs
- Assess student learning styles and use results to inform instruction
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula per IEPs
- Coordinate with staff to determine instructional goals and methods
- Supervise teacher aide(s) and volunteers
- Integrate technology into teaching
- Assist students in improving study habits
- Assess and report on student progress regularly
- Participate in extracurricular activities and sponsor approved outside activities
- Model positive behavior and support school mission
- Create a conducive learning environment
- Manage student behavior per policies
- Ensure safety and proper use of equipment and materials
- Assist in selecting instructional materials
- Maintain communication with students, parents, and staff
- Maintain professional relationships and participate in staff development
- Comply with regulations and policies
- Maintain records and reports
- Attend meetings and serve on committees
- Display professionalism, reliability, and friendliness
- Communicate effectively and respond promptly to communications

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise teacher aides
- Mentor student teachers
Working Conditions:
Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent physical activities include standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other materials.
