Job summary

Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking an Electronic Technician I to install RF mobile and portable electronics into patrol and other state vehicles, ensuring secure equipment and proper wiring. You will inspect, test and repair hardware, adjust frequency and power output per FCC rules, and log all maintenance activities for compliance.

The role requires experience or education in electronics and a valid driver’s license, with on-call duties and a full-time schedule supporting public safety.

Qualifications

  • 18 mos. exp. in installation, repair & workings of mobile communication equipment or vehicular electronics; for positions requiring travel, must possess & maintain valid driver’s license per Section 4507.02 (A)(1) of Revised Code.
  • Or completion of 2 yr. technical program in electronics or radio communications; for positions requiring travel, must possess & maintain valid driver’s license per Section 4507.02 (A)(1) of Revised Code.
  • Or completion of associate core program in electronic engineering; for positions requiring travel, must possess & maintain valid driver’s license per Section 4507.02 (A)(1) of Revised Code.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
  • Note: To meet the minimum qualifications through completion of a 2 yr. technical program, applicants must be able to verify that the technical program consisted of a minimum of 21 credit hours upon completion.

Responsibilities

  • Install all RF mobile & portable electronic equipment, various electronic equipment, various wiring harnesses, various storage boxes, trays, consoles &/or cages into Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) staff vehicles, Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) vehicles, &/or vehicles for other state agencies, which may contain secured ammunition &/or firearms.
  • Perform final inspection of all items listed above & on all electronic equipment installed in vehicles for accuracy & completeness.
  • Test, repair, &/or refurbish electronic equipment & various wiring harnesses; Repair electronic testing equipment used for monitoring & adjusting.
  • Monitor & correct any frequency modulations & power output according to Federal Communications Committee (FCC) rules & regulations.
  • Log repairs performed & adjustments to equipment per FCC guidelines.
