  • Emergency Response: Must be available for on-call emergencies regarding critical utility failures that threaten production continuity.
  • Preferred: Experience in High-Speed Manufacturing (Beverage, Food, or Pharma) is highly preferred.
  • Preferred: Associate degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, or Electrical Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and repair of malfunctions in electronic and electrical controls on plant machinery.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability.
  • Support PLC/HMI hardware and software, diagnose I/O faults and minor programming updates.
  • Maintain VFDs and servo systems for proper motor control and energy efficiency.
  • Help install, start up, and commission new equipment and control systems.
  • Keep detailed records in CMMS and collaborate with operations teams.

Brief Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Our Waco, TX facility manufactures aluminum beverage cans commonly used for soft drinks, beers, energy drinks, teas and non-carbonated beverages. Using state of the art can-making technology, this high speed environment provides rewarding manufacturing opportunities.

The Electronics Technician (ET) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic and electrical systems in our aluminum beverage can manufacturing facility. This is a critical role in ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of our complex production machinery. You will work on various systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), motor controls, sensors, and other electrical components integrated into the manufacturing lines.

Essential Job Functions
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Quickly diagnose and repair malfunctions in sophisticated electronic and electrical controls on all plant machinery and production equipment (Bodymakers, Neckers, Decorators, Light Testers, Palletizers, Conveyor Systems, etc.). Use diagnostic equipment like multimeters and specialized tools.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): Perform scheduled inspections, calibrations, and preventative maintenance on all production-related electronic systems to maximize equipment reliability and prevent unscheduled downtime.
  • PLC/HMI Support: Work with and maintain PLC and Human Machine Interface (HMI) hardware and software. Tasks will include diagnosing communication issues, addressing I/O faults, and performing minor programming updates or logic modifications.
  • VFD Maintenance: Install, configure, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and servo systems, ensuring proper motor control and energy efficiency.
  • Automation Systems: Support and maintain distributed control systems (DCS), automated measurement equipment, and vision inspection systems to ensure strict quality standards.
  • Installation: Assist with the installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment and control systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all repair and maintenance activities using the company's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with operations, maintenance engineering, and production teams to identify and resolve performance issues. Share findings and collaborate on complex problems
  • Safety & Compliance: strictly adhere to all company safety regulations, Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) protocols, electrical safety standards (e.g., NFPA 70E), and quality requirements.
Required Technical Skills And Competencies
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of electronics, AC/DC motor controls, PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.), HMI systems, and industrial electrical power systems.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Exceptional ability to read schematics, interpret wiring diagrams, and systematically diagnose complex electrical faults.
  • Calibration Expertise: Proven expertise in the theory, operation, and calibration of standard industrial instrumentation and analytical equipment.
  • PLC Troubleshooting: Strong functional knowledge and experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software.
  • Electronics: Advanced understanding of analog and digital circuitry, control loops, and signal conditioning.
  • Technical Reading: Expert ability to read and interpret complex Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and electrical schematics.
  • Tools: Demonstrated ability to use precision electrical test equipment and hand tools
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical and structured troubleshooting skills to address intricate control system failures.
  • Availability: Must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be available for emergency technical support.
  • Ability to work with employees from many different cultures and backgrounds
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: Proven experience (2+ years) as an Electronics/Electrical Technician, preferably in a high-speed manufacturing environment (e.g., beverage can, packaging, automotive).
  • 24/7 Operational Support: This role requires a commitment to a continuous shift rotation (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Emergency Response: Must be available for on-call emergencies regarding critical utility failures that threaten production continuity.
Preferred
  • Experience in High-Speed Manufacturing (Beverage, Food, or Pharma) is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience in metal forming, packaging, or high-volume consumer goods (FMCG).
  • Associate degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, or Electrical Technology.
  • ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA or similar industrial software platforms.
  • Prior experience in the aluminum packaging or beverage industry.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers).
Software/Computer Skills & Experience
  • General knowledge of basic accessing information on the computer or entering data in a computer system

Will need to climb stairs, climb ladders, lift and move objects, requires manual dexterity and repetitive use of keyboard/computer devices/power tools/machining equipment; Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.

Hours / Special Conditions

12 hour rotating shifts 4 days on and 4 days off; Rotating shifts requires working night shifts; Present to fulfill job duties & meet operational demands/support; Schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs thus flexibility is required which may include long days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime; Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position
