Job description

  • Crewline is building the autonomy and orchestration layer for construction, retrofitting heavy equipment with plug‑and‑play self‑driving kits.

  • Starting with rollers and dozers (videos), we’re expanding into trucks, excavators and loaders, ultimately orchestrating entire jobsites.

  • Within a year of founding, our machines run 8+ autonomous hours/day with leading US contractors across 5 states.

  • $8.8M raised from Initialized, Nebular and founders of Supabase, Legora and Cleo.

  • Led by second‑time founders Freddie ($30M construction startup, ex‑Google, Oxford CS) and Mo (ex‑Amazon ML, founding engineer at y42). Join our 7‑person team at our 15,000 sq ft facility and 2‑acre test yard near Austin, TX.

The role

We’re hiring an Electronics Technician to own the electrical side of our autonomy kits - from the bench to the machine.

You’ll test boards against their design, assemble the boards and harnesses into the kit, install the kit on a roller or dozer, and track down whatever fails until you find the root cause. You’ll also reverse engineer unfamiliar vehicles, meaning that when a new model arrives, you’ll find its interface points and log the signals it sends, so we know how to integrate with it. You’ll work directly with our engineers, and what you find will shape the next board revision. We want someone who has seen whole systems, not just one part of a line. If you’ve brought up boards, built the system around them, and debugged it in the field, you’re who we’re looking for.

What you’ll do

  • Bring up and test boards. In the electronics lab, use an oscilloscope, bench power supply and multimeter to confirm each component behaves as designed. That includes power converters and regulation on our power management boards, and signal paths on our vehicle interface boards.

  • Debug to the component. Read schematics, find faults down to the part, and rework or replace components with through‑hole and SMD soldering.

  • Build harnesses. Build wiring harnesses from scratch - crimping, terminations, connectors and continuity testing.

  • Assemble the system. Following work instructions, build the kit enclosure with boards, connectors and the harnesses that tie them together.

  • Install and test on the machine. Install the kit on rollers and dozers in our test yard and on customer sites. Then run system tests.

  • Reverse engineer new vehicles. For each new vehicle model, identify the interface points and log the signals being sent, so the kit can be integrated.

  • Find the root cause. When something fails, whether power, CAN, serial, Ethernet or digital I/O, trace it through the whole system until you find the cause.

  • Close the loop with engineering. Document what failed and why, and bring the data to the engineers so the next board and kit revision is better.

  • Build better test tools. Create checklists, test procedures and simple fixtures so every board and kit is verified faster and more reliably than the last.

Must have:

  • Hands‑on experience as an electronics, electrical or test technician at a robotics, autonomous vehicle, EV, aerospace or hardware company

  • Hands‑on PCB experience - you have worked with printed circuit boards directly, not just the systems around them

  • Board‑level troubleshooting - read schematics and find faults down to the component with a multimeter and oscilloscope

  • Through‑hole and SMD rework and soldering - rework and solder changes are part of the job

  • Wire harness building from scratch - crimping, terminations, connectors and continuity testing

  • Working knowledge of board components and power electronics, including converters, regulators and power distribution

  • Fluency with embedded and vehicle communication protocols - CAN, serial, Ethernet and digital I/O. Strong protocol experience from aerospace or aviation electronics counts

  • System‑level experience - you've assembled, installed or debugged a full system, not only one station or subassembly

  • Senior‑level track record - typically 5 to 10 years of experience, holding a senior or lead technician role at a demanding company

  • Clear communicator who works closely with engineers

  • Based in the Austin area, or willing to relocate

Nice to have:

  • A background in aerospace or Formula 1

  • Board bring‑up on new hardware revisions

  • Familiarity with PCB CAD software such as KiCad or Altium

  • Prototyping experience, or experience working in a test environment with new and changing systems rather than repeating the same build

  • 12/24V vehicle electrical and CAN bus diagnostic tools

  • Installing electronics on vehicles or heavy equipment, and knowing what vibration, heat, dust and water do to them

  • IPC-A-610, J‑STD‑001 or IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification

  • Military electronics or avionics maintenance background

  • Built test fixtures or simple test scripts

Compensation, location and process

  • Pay: $45 to $50 per hour, roughly $90K to $100K base and about $130K in on‑target earnings with overtime. Equity is available.

  • Benefits: Full health benefits, tool allowance, and paid travel with per diem on install trips.

  • Location: On‑site in Buda, TX, about 15 minutes south of Austin.

  • Travel: Occasional trips to customer job sites for installs, a few days at a time.

  • Physical: Able to lift 25 lbs and work outdoors on active construction sites and in and around machine cabs.
