Job summary

City of Albuquerque is seeking a skilled technician to install, test, maintain and repair electronic, computer, electrical and mechanical systems across transit and facilities. The role includes planning preventive maintenance schedules and troubleshooting to ensure reliable operation.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED with electronics training and several years of experience, plus valid NM driver’s license, COP, CDL-A, and related certifications.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED plus 60 credit hours vocational training or completion of a two-year technical program in electronics, electrical engineering, or instrumentation.
  • Four (4) years of electronic systems installation, maintenance, repair and low voltage systems experience.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, test, diagnose, repair, calibrate, or adjust electronic or mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of transit operating systems including fare collection boxes, destination signs, ADA annunciators, PA systems, CCTV monitors.
  • Prepare service orders and maintain records of work performed; submit reports as requested.

Position Summary

Install, test, maintain and repair electronic, computer, electrical and mechanical systems; plan and implement preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Essential And Supplemental Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essentialfunctions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Mustbe able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation.

  • Install, maintain, test, diagnose, repair, calibrate, or adjust electronic or mechanical equipment and or systems within assigned department; plan and implement preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of transit operating systems including but not limited to fare collection boxes, destination signs, ADA annunciators, PA systems, closed circuit TV monitors and other related equipment.
  • Maintain a test bench and associated equipment; assume responsibility for maintaining appropriate supplies and supply sources for timely repair of equipment; order, receive, inspect, inventory and stock repair parts, diagnostic equipment and tools.
  • Repair and maintain telephone and other communications systems.
  • Prepare service orders to document repair history of equipment; prepare and maintain records of work performed; submit reports as requested.
  • Read blueprints, sketches and diagrams and/or receive verbal instructions for the layout of electronic and mechanical systems; assist in the preparation of specifications for electronic systems and equipment.
  • Install, calibrate, maintain and repair analog and digital G.P.S. monitor on assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Install and maintain the digital system fuel and mileage systems.
  • Program and download information received from systems to provide preventative maintenance and vehicle use information.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS
  • Attend seminars and training programs.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED plus sixty (60) credit hours vocational training or completion of a two (2) year technical program in electronics, electrical engineering, or instrumentation; and Four (4) years of electronic systems installation, maintenance, repair and low voltage systems experience.

Additional Requirements

  • One year (1) technical/functional crew lead experience preferred.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid AC Recovery certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) license within six (6) months from date of hire.
Working Conditions
Environmental

Field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to electrical energy, inclement weather conditions.

Physical

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light to moderate lifting and carrying; standing, kneeling, stooping, bending, and walking for prolonged periods; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
