Pay Range: $27.71 – $38.79 per hour

Hiring Range: $27.71 – $33.25 per hour (estimate)

Essential Functions
  • Perform skilled analysis, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electronic systems, controls, instrumentation, and related equipment.
  • Perform quality control testing and diagnostic analysis to ensure proper system functionality and make corrective adjustments as needed.
  • Fabricate, modify, or install electronic equipment and system components from verbal instructions, sketches, plans, or technical drawings.
  • Prepare estimates for repair, maintenance, or special projects based on sketches, plans, and engineering specifications.
  • Prepare sketches, diagrams, and documentation to support work performed or proposed.
  • Maintain detailed records of activities, services, repairs, and usage of supported equipment and systems.
  • Inspect and maintain assigned tools, test equipment, and vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
  • Coordinate work activities with other divisions, agencies, or contractors to optimize resources and minimize service disruptions.
  • Monitor and evaluate contractor performance and compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Train and assist employees in safe and proper methods of electronic systems maintenance and repair.
  • Store, handle, and dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations and maintain required protective equipment.
  • Maintain security and accountability for tools, equipment, and materials, particularly in sensitive or restricted settings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in the electronics trade AND one year of relevant journeyman-level experience. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
  • Two years with Pima County in a Trades Maintenance Specialist II or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent experience, within the last five years, maintaining, installing, upgrading, modifying, and programming electronic gate and door access control systems.
  • Recent experience, within the last five years, constructing and repairing analog and digital telecommunication systems, including CCTV camera systems, intercom, public address, computer LAN, and A/V systems.
  • Recent experience, within the last five years, installing, inspecting, testing, and servicing fire alarm systems using current NFPA standards.
  • Recent experience, within the last five years, installing and servicing intrusion alarm systems.
  • Journeyman-level experience with test instruments including, but not limited to, oscilloscopes, digital and analog multimeters, signal generators, voltmeters, current meters, frequency meters, audio and video level meters, and AC/DC power supplies.
  • Recent experience, within the last five years, performing electronic tasks including, but not limited to, the printed circuit board component level.
  • NICET 1 Certification for Fire Alarm Systems.
Selection Procedure

Pima County Human Resources reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated and scored against any advertised preferred qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments or testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates
  • Valid driver license required at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license required at time of appointment.
  • Subject to a 39‑month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine suitability to operate county vehicles. Failure to maintain required licenses and certifications may be grounds for termination.
  • NICET Level 1 Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems Certification required by completion of probation.
  • Ability to obtain a jail pass is required.
Special Notice Items
  • County requires pre‑employment background checks and post‑offer physical and/or drug screen, which may include respirator fit test.
Physical/Sensory Requirements
  • Post‑offer physical screening required.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds; ability to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Safely operate assigned vehicles and powered equipment; work in extremes of heat, humidity, dust, cold; wear required safety clothing/equipment; work with noxious chemicals; ascend/descend ladders and stairs; differentiate colors.
Working Conditions

Position requires on‑call hours. Occasionally performs duties at correctional facilities or high‑security areas. Other working conditions determined by position.
