Job summary

Shield AI in Dallas, TX seeks a Materials and Failure Analysis Engineer to lead investigations of failure mechanisms in the XBAT vehicle. You will work with design, manufacturing and supply chain, develop lab procedures, and drive materials selection and processing decisions.

The role requires hands-on lab work with SEM/EDS, X-ray, CT, and thermal analysis methods (DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, FTIR). 2+ years in materials engineering; aerospace/auto preferred; strong communication and team skills.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in a materials engineering role (aerospace/auto preferred)
• Self-starter with strong problem solving and attention to detail
• Bachelors in Materials Science/Engineering/Chemical Engineering (Mechanical/Reliability accepted)
• Familiar with electronics and moving mechanical assemblies; know failure mechanisms such as solder fatigue
• Strong written and verbal communication; team player
• Experience with interdisciplinary teams from concept to production
• 2+ years operating lab instruments (SEMs, microscopes, X-ray)
• Familiar with IPC, JEDEC, MIL, ASTM standards

Responsibilities

• Lead materials/failure analyses and investigations for XBAT vehicle
• Develop lab procedures for materials characterization and reporting
• Analyze metals, ceramics, polymers, composites; influence material selection and processing
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, supply chain; drive corrective actions
• Perform hands-on lab work with SEM/EDS, X-ray, CT, optical microscopy
• Coordinate external labs when needed
• Educate stakeholders on materials science and best practices
