Job summary

UL Solutions in Northbrook, IL is seeking a detail-oriented associate to join the Industrial Controls Lab. You will set up and perform electrical testing on PLCs, motor drives, contactors, and safety devices, reading blueprints and wiring diagrams to ensure compliant test results.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or military equivalent in Electronics Technician or related field.

Responsibilities

• Set up and perform electrical testing on samples using schematics and instruments.

• Operate lab equipment and maintain test area; communicate with engineers and clients as needed.
• Record data and prepare test reports; plan tests and interpret results.

Job Description

The Industrial Controls Lab provides a variety of performance testing and certification of Industrial Controls products such as PLCs, motor drives, contactors, elevator interlocks and emergency stop devices.

Responsibilities

• Examine test samples and read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, measuring instruments, and operational instructions to set up and perform a variety of electrical testing.
• Analyze test performance and review test data with supervisor.
• Build test setups and make adjustments to test equipment to perform a variety of testing.
• Use knowledge of resistive and inductive circuits to achieve the correct voltage, amperage, and power factor requirements.
• Operate designated machines and special laboratory equipment, performing routine maintenance of the designated test equipment and laboratory area.
• Receive instructions from and report data to engineers and other laboratory personnel, and may communicate with clients during the set up and performance of a test to demonstrate or otherwise illustrate equipment test methods and/or discuss test results. May also communicate with UL field representatives to discuss additional follow-up tests, samples, equipment, methods and/or results.
• Record observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms and prepare data sheets and test reports. May plan tests, evaluate test results and report opinions and interpretations, as directed.
• Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
• Perform other duties as directed.

• Strong electrical/electronics knowledge
• Experience working with the above products
• Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers

• Ability to lift 50lbs and work in a physically demanding environment

Total Rewards

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $45,000 to $60,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full‑time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday and personal days (totaling 12 days), and sick time off (72 hours).
