Austin Sensing Company in Austin, TX is seeking an Electronics Hardware Design Engineer to own the circuit boards behind our sensing systems, from requirements through bring-up and production.
You will work with RF, FPGA, embedded teams to build reliable, manufacturable boards, debugging and optimizing performance, power, and thermal characteristics. This role emphasizes hands-on design and collaboration with manufacturing to ensure high-yield production.
Austin Sensing Company builds radar, acoustic, and RF sensors for defense, public safety, critical infrastructure, and autonomous systems. We design and manufacture our hardware in Austin, Texas, with a focus on making high-performance sensing reliable, affordable, and widely available.
We’re hiring an Electronics Hardware Design Engineer to design the circuit boards behind our sensing systems. You’ll own designs from requirements and component selection through schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, validation, and production.
You’ll work closely with RF, FPGA, embedded systems, and mechanical engineers to build boards that perform reliably and can be manufactured consistently. We’re looking for someone who can make sound design decisions, debug their own hardware, and carry a board through multiple revisions into a finished product.
Design digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuits for sensor interfaces, processing, communications, and power distribution.
Own component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, and manufacturing documentation.
Define board stackups, placement, routing constraints, grounding, and power distribution with attention to signal integrity and noise.
Integrate microcontrollers, processors, FPGAs, memory, data converters, and communications interfaces.
Work with RF engineers on interfaces between RF circuitry and supporting electronics.
Bring up new boards and verify power rails, clocks, interfaces, and functionality.
Diagnose failures using measurements, schematics, and controlled tests. Identify root causes and implement fixes.
Evaluate power consumption, thermal behavior, and electrical margins across operating conditions.
Design for manufacturability and testability, including programming access, test points, and production test requirements.
Work with manufacturing and suppliers to resolve assembly issues, qualify component alternatives, and improve board yield.
Maintain design files, bills of materials, revision history, and validation results.
Experience designing PCBs from initial requirements through bring-up and production.
Proficiency in Altium Designer or a comparable PCB design tool.
Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics, power supplies, grounding, and circuit protection.
Experience designing multilayer boards and applying signal integrity and power integrity principles.
Familiarity with embedded processors, FPGAs, memory, and peripheral interfaces.
Hands‑on debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and electronic loads.
Experience preparing board fabrication and assembly files and reviewing designs with manufacturers.
The ability to explain design tradeoffs and work through issues with firmware, RF, and mechanical engineers.
Careful documentation and a willingness to take responsibility for a design through production.
Experience with radar, RF, acoustic, or other sensing hardware.
Experience with high‑speed interfaces such as DDR, Ethernet, USB, PCIe, or JESD204.
Experience with low‑noise analog circuits, ADCs, DACs, and sensor signal conditioning.
Familiarity with EMI/EMC testing and improving designs based on test results.
Experience designing for outdoor environments, temperature extremes, and electrical transients.
Experience supporting production testing and troubleshooting field failures.
A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
