Advanced Mechanical Technology in Watertown, MA designs and maintains electrical subsystems for motion platforms, including controllers, drives, actuators, sensors, and power electronics.

The role covers control system tuning, BOM management, and collaboration with contract manufacturers; prior experience with embedded firmware interfaces and schematic reviews is valued. The team emphasizes robust hardware-software integration and strict documentation standards for production.

Job Summary:

• Design and maintain electrical subsystems for motion and actuation platforms: controllers, drives, actuators, sensors, instrumentation, and feedback
• Support control system tuning and calibration
• Specify and integrate motors, drives, encoders, and power electronics; review schematics and PCBA designs with external board houses
• Support embedded firmware by troubleshooting hardware/firmware interaction issues
• Support production with troubleshooting, test fixtures, bring-up procedures, and compliant documentation
• Manage BOM obsolescence and design refreshes for electrical subsystems

Candidates from industrial automation, mechatronics, automotive, or robotics backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
• 5+ years in electrical or electromechanical system design — motors, drives, encoders, actuation, power electronics, or feedback/control systems
• Strong foundation in electronics, closed-loop control concepts, and applied math/analytical problem-solving
• Comfortable reviewing schematics and interfacing with contract manufacturers on custom PCBAs
• Working knowledge of how embedded firmware interacts with electrical hardware

Nice to Have:

• Experience with robotics, medical devices, or test/simulation systems
• Exposure to industrial communication protocols or FPGA-based systems
• Familiarity with regulated/compliance environments (ISO, medical device standards)
• Experience with low-noise analog signal conditioning and data acquisition
