Job description

Overview

A full‑time electronic technician position at our Pawcatuck, Connecticut facility. The role supports prototype and product fabrication, working closely with the Prototyping & Fabrication Department management team, engineering staff, and fellow technicians. Successful candidates will be detail‑oriented, process‑oriented, adaptable, personable, and strong communicators, able to work independently or in a team. Preferred: 5+ years of experience; recent associate’s degree or technical school graduate also considered. Candidates will complete a short proficiency test that includes hand soldering.

Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • PCB soldering and assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
  • Wire harness assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
  • Chassis wiring and assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
  • Assist Electrical Engineers with prototyping, troubleshooting, and testing of electronic sub‑assemblies.
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and upkeep of electronics lab space and electrical work cell floor area.
  • Organize and support maintenance of electronic test equipment.
  • Support organization, maintenance, and cleanliness of shop area floor space.
Required Skills and Attributes
  • Strict adherence to process, careful attention to detail, and accountability for quality and timeliness of work.
  • Knowledge of basic electronic principles.
  • Expert soldering skills for surface‑mount components down to sizes of MSOP ICs (0.5 mm pitch) and 0402 passive components (capacitors/resistors); proficiency test will evaluate these abilities.
  • Reading schematics and board layout files, signal tracing, and implementation of non‑fragile prototype modifications and signal break‑outs.
  • Basic computer skills for email communication, time‑card entry, and basic internet research.
  • Good hand/eye coordination for safe job performance.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
  • IPC‑A‑610 or J‑STD‑001 certifications are a plus.
  • Experience with oscilloscope, waveform generator, hi‑pot tester, handheld meters, power supplies, and other basic lab equipment.
Security Clearance

Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, typically requiring U.S. citizenship and a thorough background investigation.
