Southwest Range Services operates, maintains, repairs, and installs electronic equipment including radar, radio, television, and navigational aids. The technician applies electronics principles to locate malfunctions and restore operations.
Work includes operating instrumentation, replacing components, and taking readings to ensure proper function. Qualified applicants have at least three years of progressive experience or a two-year technical institute credential and a valid driver's license.
Operates, maintains, repairs, and installs various types of electronic equipment and related devices, including electronic transmitting and receiving equipment (e.g., radar, radio, television, telecommunication, sonar, and navigational aids); personal and mainframe computers and terminals; industrial, measuring, and controlling equipment; and industrial robotic devices. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles to determine equipment malfunctions and applies technical skills to restore equipment operations.
Applies technical knowledge to perform simple or routine O&M tasks in accordance with detailed instructions. Performs tasks such as operating electronic instrumentation equipment; replacing components and wiring circuits; repairing simple electronic equipment; and taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multi-meters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes.
Receives technical guidance, as required, from a supervisor or higher-level technician. Work is spot-checked for accuracy. Work includes associated cross-utilization into other jobs, as required. May require overtime and weekend work.
Qualification requirements include demonstration of satisfactory skill and good performance with three years of progressive work experience in the particular field or graduation from a two-year resident course at a technical institute. Must possess a valid driver's license. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
