Job summary

Exelon is seeking a field technician to assist with testing, installation, maintenance, and repair of our communication systems and protective control networks. You will support higher classified staff, operate test equipment, and follow safety protocols in varied environments.

The role requires an associate degree in electrical or related fields, strong communication skills, and a readiness for overtime, on-call duties, and shift work as per the labor agreement.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Electrical or related field or equivalent
  • Knowledge of electric and electronic principles as related to communications and protective control systems
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and basic First-Aid
  • Experience demonstrating skill learning various work methods
  • Experience demonstrating effective written and oral communication skills
  • Experience demonstrating skill using various test equipment (e.g., instruments, hand tools)
  • Experience demonstrating ability to take direction from leads, supervisors, and managers
  • Willingness to work overtime and be on call as per Labor Agreement
  • Ability for indoor/outdoor tasks including physical activity and safety gear
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and pass background/drug tests

Job description

Primary Purpose of Position

Assists higher classified employees with testing, installation, maintenance, repair and modifications of all Company communication systems and associated protective control systems.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Electrical or a related field or the equivalent combination of formal education, training and/or experience
  • Knowledgeable of electric and electronic principles as related to communications and associated protective control systems
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA safety regulations and general First-Aid methods
  • Experience demonstrating skill learning various work methods
  • Experience demonstrating effective written and oral communication skills
  • Experience demonstrating skill using various test equipment (e.g., instruments, hand tools, etc.)
  • Experience demonstrating skill taking direction from leads, supervisors, and managers
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for call‑out overtime and shift work, consistent with Labor Agreement
  • Ability and willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks to include:
    • continuous physical activity
    • bending, twisting, kneeling, and squatting
    • climbing ladders, pulling, pushing and lifting up to 75 lbs and working on energized equipment areas ranging from very hot to very cold temperatures
    • work in tight dimly lit spaces and loud areas
    • possess a high degree of manual dexterity
    • driving a Company vehicle
    • differentiate colors in a computer environment
    • distinguish sounds at various decibel levels
    • wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and Company regulations (e.g., ear plugs, helmets, steel‑toed shoes, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire‑retardant clothing)
    • work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice and on call during storms and system emergencies according to Labor Agreement
    • perform a Second Role in accordance with Pepco Holdings Emergency Preparedness Guidelines for all employees
  • Must successfully pass a Qualification Test
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal History Background Check
  • Must successfully pass a Drug Test

This position is a NERC Regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on the incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training.
