Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for a talented Electronic Systems Product Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Fridley, MN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Translate product and customer requirements into clear, actionable hardware and software specifications that ensure optimal performance of electronic and electrical systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues by identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and documenting outcomes to improve product reliability.

  • Drive robust system development by applying and enhancing processes such as modeling, simulation, calibration, and Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R).

  • Deliver high-quality, validated solutions by configuring (tuning) systems and conducting comprehensive testing of fully integrated hardware and software components.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with customers, engineering teams, manufacturing, and suppliers to inform design decisions and deliver customer-focused solutions.

  • Ensure design excellence by reviewing and guiding the work of less-experienced engineers, promoting reusable, efficient, and high-quality system designs.

  • Lead and influence projects by owning complex components or smaller initiatives, providing technical direction, and navigating ambiguity to achieve successful outcomes.

  • Strengthen team capability and continuous improvement by mentoring others, coordinating technical work, and contributing to the advancement of engineering processes and practices.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Leverage strong systems engineering expertise by translating requirements into effective mechatronics designs, integrating hardware and software, and optimizing overall system performance.

  • Apply analytical and problem-solving rigor through modeling, simulation, verification, and root cause analysis to deliver reliable, high-quality product solutions.

  • Navigate complexity and drive execution by making sound, timely decisions, managing competing priorities, and consistently delivering results in technically demanding environments.

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively by building strong networks, adapting messaging to diverse audiences, and valuing different perspectives to achieve aligned, cross-functional outcomes.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.

Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.

Preferred Core Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Apply hands-on expertise in power generation and industrial control systems, demonstrating a strong understanding of mechatronic and engine system operations.

  • Utilize foundational knowledge of electrical and power generation principles, including alternators and active/reactive power, to support system design and performance.

  • Contribute to control system cybersecurity efforts by supporting risk assessments, defining system boundaries, and incorporating risk mitigation architectures.

  • Lead systems engineering development for power generation control systems, including base and application software, requirements definition, and validation testing.

  • Provide technical project leadership for value package initiatives (VPCR/VPI), ensuring alignment on technical direction, timelines, and resource planning.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and provide technical leadership across teams, including support for reactionary (Lane 1) initiatives to ensure effective issue resolution and delivery.

  • Support execution within an onsite, highly collaborative engineering environment, contributing to team success and continuous improvement at the Fridley, MN location.
