Electronic Security Systems Design Engineer

Responsibilities

The Design Engineer (DE) is a member of the Project Engineering Electronic Security Systems (ESS) team and supports client design projects through the entire lifecycle, from sales concept to construction administration. The DE provides technical expertise, coordination, and project management across complex ESS engagements.

• Collaborate with clients and the Design Engineering team to develop specifications, designs, budgets, timelines, and manage expectations.
• Conceptualize system designs and determine system requirements.
• Provide technical expertise to support architecture, installation, and planning of electronic security solutions.
• Develop ESS project estimates and proposals.
• Create the Bill of Materials (BOM) and supporting documentation.
• Prepare detailed 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC drawings.
• Research, identify, and recommend technology options for clients.
• Engage with clients and contribute to the P&L performance.
• Maintain client partnerships and work with team members to sustain account performance.
• Keep industry expertise current through trade publications, trade shows, seminars, and educational forums; may author articles or analyze trends.
• Provide direction and counsel to junior personnel in engineering projects and guide issue resolution.
• Participate in manufacturer trainings, lunch and learns, and continuous online education.

Must live in the Milwaukee / Chicago area. The DE will be supported and mentored by Senior Design Engineers and maintain both primary and supportive roles on complex ESS projects under the direction of the DEM.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree required and/or equivalent experience.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, BIM, and MS Office 365.
• Certifications or training within Milestone and Lenel required.
• Certifications or training with Genetec, Avigilon, and S2 preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on the technology focus of the position.

Required Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in technical systems design.
• Ability to obtain a government-issued Top Secret Clearance (US-based only).
• Clear understanding of project phases: Program, Conceptualization, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, Construction, and Commissioning.
• Thorough, demonstrable understanding of the construction process, installation and integration, as well as architectural and construction drawings and specifications.

• Exceptional time‑management skills with a track record of meeting deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to analyze complex issues and communicate concise, succinct messages.
