Job summary

CertiPath Inc. seeks an Electronic Security Engineer to support a Federal Agency’s nationwide program from onsite labs in Springfield/Arlington, VA.

You will install, test, and evaluate PACS/IDS/VMS hardware and software, ensuring federal policy compliance and accurate documentation. Ideal candidates have a 4-year security-related bachelor’s degree, 2 years hands-on PACS/IDS/VMS experience, and US citizenship with clearance ability.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a government clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information technology, cybersecurity, or related field.
  • 4 years of total experience in the security industry, 2 years with hands-on installation and configuration of integrated Physical Access Control, Video Management, and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Experience integrating a variety of electronic security devices.
  • System administrator level knowledge of Windows servers, virtual machines, relational databases, and storage systems; IP addressing, switching, and basic network troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly laboratory and ensure equipment/test results are readily available.
  • Install, configure, integrate, and update electronic security hardware and software (PACS, IDS, VMS, Intercom, Network).
  • Evaluate new products for capability, interoperability, and policy compliance; advise on installation/configuration standards.
  • Develop test methods and conduct controlled experiments to produce repeatable results.
  • Analyze test results and produce evaluation reports, guides, and procedures.
  • Reproduce field issues to diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, cabling, power, and configuration problems.
  • Facilitate lab activities with manufacturers’ reps to obtain technical information and resolve issues.
  • Test PACS components to ensure compliance with federal policies and requirements.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventories, diagrams, and test documentation.
  • Prepare equipment and environments for stakeholder demonstrations and reviews.
  • Travel up to 10% outside DC area as needed.

What will my responsibilities include as Electronic Security Engineer at CertiPath?
  • Maintain a safe and orderly laboratory where equipment and prior test results can be obtained quickly.
  • Install, configure, integrate, and update electronic security hardware and software (PACS, IDS, VMS, Intercom, Network).
  • Evaluate new, emerging, and returned products for capability, limits, interoperability, maturity, Federal policy compliance, and fitness for Program use or reuse. Advise stakeholders on resulting changes to installation and configuration standards.
  • Develop practical test methods for new product/configuration evaluation and conduct controlled experiments that produce meaningful, repeatable results.
  • Analyze test results and produce evaluation reports, technical guides, and procedures explaining what was tested, how it was tested, what was learned, and any limitations or unresolved questions.
  • Reproduce field-reported problems to diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, cabling, power, configuration, and integration issues.
  • Facilitate lab activities with manufacturers’ representatives to obtain technical information and resolve problems.
  • Test PACS hardware and software components to ensure compliance with Federal security policies, standards and functional requirements.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventories, labels, diagrams, photographs, configuration records, and test documentation.
  • Prepare equipment and test environments for Program stakeholder demonstrations and stakeholder reviews.
  • Most of your time will be local to the DC area, but at the request of the Program, you’ll have the opportunity to travel up to 10% of the time outside the DC area to perform periodic validation of Physical Security installations performed by third parties and issue reports on findings.

What qualifications do you look for?
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a government clearance.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information technology, cybersecurity, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 4 years of total experience in the security industry, 2 years of which includes performing hands-on installation and configuration of integrated Physical Access Control, Video Management, and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Experience integrating a variety of electronic security devices.
  • System administrator level knowledge of Windows servers, virtual machines, relational databases, and storage systems, plus knowledge of IP addressing, switching, and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and electronic test equipment, including occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds to install equipment for testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze technical results and produce clear, well-organized reports, procedures, and technical guides based on hands-on testing or experimentation.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
We’re extra impressed by folks who have:
  • Specific experience and/or certification in Hirsch Velocity and IQSight BVMS products.
  • IT and PACS Security Certification (e.g., Comp TIA Security+, PSP, CSEIP, CSCIP/G or CISSP).
  • Working knowledge of HSPD-12, FIPS 201-3 and NIST publications (800-116-1, 800-53-5, 800-73-4).
  • Experience developing technical guidance for a systems or software manufacturer (e.g., installation manuals, technical bulletins).
