Job summary

MKS Instruments in Andover, MA is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the Valves Engineering team with hands‑on electrical and mechanical assembly, test, and troubleshooting. You will work closely with electrical, software, mechanical, and test engineers to design, build, test, and troubleshoot equipment used globally.

The role emphasizes reading schematics, PCB rework, and lab equipment operation, with opportunities to contribute to failure analyses, test reports, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of practical experience with electronic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with PCB rework (SMT and through-hole soldering).
  • Hands-on experience using oscilloscope, DMMs, DC power supplies and electronic loads.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and drawings.
  • Troubleshoot analog and digital circuits to the component level.
  • Perform failure analysis and generate detailed test reports.
  • Assemble, test, evaluate, and maintain electrical/electronic systems and wiring.
  • Order and manage electrical components, tools, and lab supplies.
  • Disassemble and reassemble complex mechanical and electro‑mechanical assemblies.
  • Support lab operations, including equipment maintenance and calibration tracking.

Job description

As an Engineering Technician in MKS Valves Engineering team, you will play an important role within a highly collaborative, cross‑functional environment. You will work closely with electrical, software, mechanical and test engineers to design, build, test, and troubleshoot equipment used around the world. If you enjoy hands‑on work with both electrical and mechanical systems and take pride in finding practical solutions, this could be a great opportunity for you. In this role, you will report to the Engineering Manager.

You Will Make an Impact By:
  • Providing technical support to the engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical and electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Troubleshooting analog and digital circuits down to the component level.
  • Performing failure analysis, documenting findings, and generating detailed test reports.
  • Assembling, testing, evaluating, and maintaining electrical and electronic systems, wiring, and equipment.
  • Ordering and managing electrical components, tools, and lab supplies.
  • Disassembling and reassembling complex mechanical and electro‑mechanical assemblies.
  • Supporting lab operations, including equipment maintenance, calibration tracking, and documentation.
Skills You Bring:
  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of practical experience working with electronic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong experience with component‑level troubleshooting and circuit analysis.
  • Experience performing PCB rework, including both surface‑mount (SMT) and through‑hole soldering.
  • Hands‑on experience using standard lab equipment, including Oscilloscopes, Digital multimeters (DMMs), DC power supplies and electronic loads.
  • Experience with PC based applications to include Microsoft Office package and email.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
Pay Range:

Total Base Pay Range $30.48 - 50.80 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law.

Bonus:

This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS.
