Advanced Energy in Eden Prairie, MN is seeking an Electronic Engineer II to design, develop, and validate advanced switch-mode power supplies. You will own substantial portions of product designs and drive performance and reliability across the lifecycle.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, perform validation and documentation, and mentor junior engineers while supporting innovation and regulatory compliance.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Electronic Engineer II, you will play a key role in the design, development, and validation of advanced switch-mode power supplies and power conversion systems. You will own significant portions of product designs, contribute to multiple development programs, and independently solve complex technical challenges across the product lifecycle. Working collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams, you will drive product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction while helping bring innovative power solutions to market.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as a key contributor on product development teams responsible for advanced power conversion products.

• Design, develop, test, and debug power supply subsystems including AC/DC converters, power factor correction circuits, control systems, EMI filters, RF filters, digital and analog circuitry, and system-level architectures.

• Own significant portions of product designs and lead technical aspects of assigned projects or workstreams.

• Develop and execute validation plans, characterize product performance, and analyze test results to ensure compliance with design requirements.

• Independently evaluate design alternatives and apply sound engineering judgment to select methods, techniques, and solutions.

• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams throughout the product lifecycle.

• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to product design, field performance, manufacturing yield, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions using formal problem-solving methodologies.

• Contribute to architecture reviews, design reviews, FMEAs, risk assessments, and product improvement initiatives.

• Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including requirements, specifications, design reports, test plans, verification reports, and design change documentation.

• Support product transfer to manufacturing and provide technical guidance during production ramp-up activities.

• Identify opportunities for product enhancements, cost reductions, quality improvements, and intellectual property development.

• Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineering technicians, associate engineers, and junior engineers.

• Interface with internal stakeholders and occasionally support customer technical discussions regarding product requirements and performance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Location: Eden Prairie, MN

• Environment: Works in a noisy fast-paced power development lab and standard office environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong understanding of power electronics, analog and digital circuit design, and control systems.

• Demonstrated ability to independently design, analyze, prototype, simulate, test, and validate electronic circuits and subsystems.

• Proficiency using laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, electronic loads, DMMs, and function generators.

• Experience with circuit simulation and analysis tools.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve increasingly complex technical problems.

• Ability to manage priorities across multiple assignments and meet project schedules.

• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Working knowledge of electrical safety and regulatory standards.

• Experience with scripting, automation, or data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.

EXPERIENCE:

• 2-5 years of engineering experience in power electronics, power conversion, or related electronic product development.

• Experience designing and testing electronic circuits and subsystems.

• Experience performing root cause analysis and troubleshooting product issues in laboratory or manufacturing environments.

• Experience participating in cross-functional product development activities.

• Experience supporting products through development, verification, and release phases.

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline required.

• Master's degree preferred.

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $75,000 to $105,000 per year.
