Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Irving, TX is seeking a Product Owner for edge AI compute components used in rugged, autonomous machines.

You will coordinate hardware and software, manage plans and budgets, and drive value through cross-functional collaboration with suppliers and internal teams. Ideal candidates will have deep experience in edge AI, embedded hardware, and project leadership, with a track record of delivering complex programs on schedule.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage stakeholders.
  • Experience planning and governing projects with time, cost and quality awareness.
  • Ability to coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to meet milestones.
  • Familiarity with automotive development and AIAG APQP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the product owner for edge AI compute component platforms.
  • Create project plans integrating hardware and software for edge devices.
  • Support business case and investment decisions with resource estimates.
  • Communicate program status to stakeholders and management.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to meet cost, schedule and quality targets.
  • Guide internal and external teams to deliver on goals.
  • Productionize high-performance processors, GPUs, and AI accelerators for rugged environments.
  • Lead new product introduction and ongoing improvements.
  • Support current and next-generation autonomous machines and safety features.
  • Develop common hardware/software interfaces for reuse across Caterpillar machines.

Manages new and existing edge AI compute components involving design, development and testing of electrical and electronic components for use within machine, artificial intelligence and autonomy systems.

What You Will Do:
  • Act as the product owner accountable for time, cost and quality for up to several edge AI compute component platforms
  • Project plan creation for edge AI compute components managing platform hardware and software coordination
  • Support business case and investment decisions by communicating value created and resources needed to meet project needs
  • Communicate program status to internal stakeholders and management
  • Collaborate with suppliers to deliver project milestones at cost targets, on schedule, and at expected quality.
  • Guide and prioritize work of internal and external teams to meet goals
  • Productionize high performance processor, GPU, and AI accelerator platforms to survive in rugged environments
  • New product introduction as well as continuous product improvement
  • Support Caterpillar's current and next generation of autonomous machines and advanced safety features
  • Champion reuse and standardization by developing common hardware and software interfaces that can be leveraged across Caterpillar machines
What You Will Have:
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Familiarity with automotive development and quality processes (AIAG APQP)
  • Familiarity with functional safety principles (IEC 61508)
  • Embedded computer hardware or software technical experience
  • Nvidia ecosystem familiarity and experience
  • A proven history of delivering complex projects on schedule
Additional Information:
  • This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Irving, TX office, five days per week.
  • Relocation assistance is available for this position.

  • Travel is up to 10%

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
