Job summary

  • Strong electrochemical engineering knowledge: cell design, reactions, mass transport, current distribution, electrode behavior, monitoring, and analysis.
  • Ability to translate process requirements into practical engineering inputs for equipment design, power systems, controls, and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support electrochemical process concepts, cell designs, operating parameters, and scale-up strategies for industrial-sized electrochemical systems.
  • Provide input on molten salt electrochemistry, cell configuration, electrode materials, environments, power requirements, thermal management, and performance.
  • Support design integration with DC power systems, high-temperature vessels, furnaces, piping, instrumentation, controls, safety systems, and fabrication.
  • Plan, evaluate, document electrochemical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, data interpretation, and performance improvement activities.
  • Identify technical risks, scale-up challenges, process constraints, and opportunities to improve reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts, engineers, designers, fabricators, vendors, and project leadership to advance objectives.

Position Summary

The Electrochemical Engineer will provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering support for industrial-scale electrochemical cell development, with emphasis on molten salt or other large-format electrochemical systems. This role will help fill a critical experienceneedin electrochemistry at scale, supporting design, testing, optimization, and integration of process equipment across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and support electrochemical process concepts, cell designs, operating parameters, and scale-up strategies for industrial-sized electrochemical systems.
  • Provide technical input on molten salt electrochemistry, cell configuration, electrode materials, reaction environments, power requirements, thermal management, and process performance.
  • Support design integration with DC power systems, high-temperature vessels, furnaces, mechanical piping, instrumentation, controls, safety systems, and custom equipment fabrication.
  • Plan, evaluate, and document electrochemical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, data interpretation, and performance improvement activities.
  • Identifytechnical risks, scale-up challenges, process constraints, equipment interface issues, and opportunities to improve reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts, engineers, designers, fabricators, vendors, and project leadership to advance technicalobjectives.
Requirements
  • Experience with molten salts or experience designing, developing, operating, or scaling industrial-sized electrochemical cells.
  • Strong electrochemical engineering knowledge, including cell design, electrochemical reactions, mass transport, current distribution, electrode behavior, process monitoring, and performance analysis.
  • Ability to translate electrochemical process requirements into practical engineering inputs for equipment design, power systems, controls, and operations.
  • Experience supporting laboratory-to-pilot or pilot-to-industrial scale-up, test planning, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary engineering integration.
  • Ability to work in a complex technical environment requiring safety focus, technical rigor, quality documentation, and cross-functional communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Senior-level experience with molten salt electrochemistry, electrorefining, electrowinning, electrodeposition, electroplating, metallurgy, or high-temperature electrochemical processes.
  • Experience supporting DOE, NNSA, nuclear, advanced energy, materials processing, chemical processing, or highly regulated research and development programs.
  • Advanced degree in Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field is preferred.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related discipline is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, advanced technical training, and directly relevant electrochemical systems experience may be considered.
