Join Our Advanced Technology Project Team – Defense & Commercial Systems

SQA Group is partnering with an innovative technology provider specializing in fixed and gyro-stabilized night vision camera systems, serving both the Defense and Commercial sectors.

We’re assembling a focused project team to remediate and upgrade a gimbal-mounted electro-optical stabilization mount currently deployed in the field. This effort will address mechanical and software-related improvements - delivering fix packages for installed systems while also laying the foundation for a production-ready, next-gen model.

This is a 9-month hybrid engagement requiring on-site presence 2–3 days per week at our client’s facility in Rhode Island.

We're Hiring for the Following Roles:

1. Electro-Mechanical Engineer

Focus: End-to-end design, integration, and testing of ruggedized, gimbal-mounted electro-optical systems. You’ll be responsible for engineering the stabilization platform and integrating off-the-shelf sensor and control components into modular, vibration-tolerant housings. From mechanical design to electronic signal conversion and system-level testing, this role blends hands-on development with field-ready innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design stabilized, modular gimbal housing and optical bench architectures
  • Engineer drive systems and power distribution for vibration-tolerant platforms
  • Develop PCB boards to convert photonic inputs into digital signals for displays and sensor controls
  • Integrate sensors with joystick-controlled user interfaces
  • Perform functional, operational, and environmental testing
  • Support prototyping, system integration, and lab-based as well as potential marine field testing

Ideal Experience:

  • Background in stabilized electro-optical or laser systems, ideally for vehicle-mounted or mobile platforms
  • Experience with MEMS gyros, sensor mounting, and network/communication integration
  • Strong familiarity with infrared/UV/visible light camera equipment and laser technologies
  • Comfort with off-the-shelf component design and rapid iteration cycles
  • Experience working in government/defense environments preferred

2. Systems Engineer (Linux/Embedded)

Focus: Software architecture and system-level integration of motion-tolerant electro-optical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop embedded software to interface with sensor hardware and stabilization systems
  • Build joystick-based control and user interface (UI) capabilities
  • Implement features such as target tracking, video overlays (zoom, range, reticle), and diagnostics
  • Ensure modularity and scalability of code for future production use

Ideal Experience:

  • Embedded software development in Linux environments
  • Hands-on integration of hardware and sensor systems in vibration-tolerant applications
  • Background in defense-related systems and compliance a plus

Why This Project?

  • Impactful Work: Contribute to systems supporting defense missions
  • Hands-On Innovation: From lab-based prototyping to real-world testing
  • Scalable Design: Help build what could become a standard product offering

**Please note: this is a 6-9 month consulting opportunity.
