Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems, based in Somerville, MA, seeks an Equipment Specialist to support production process improvements and manufacturing efficiency. You will collaborate with manufacturing and equipment engineering teams to reduce downtime, improve quality, and shorten SPARC timelines.

The role requires hands-on electromechanical work, troubleshooting, and rapid prototyping using CAD/3D printing. You’ll write work instructions, monitor downtime, and help implement new techniques in a

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years’ experience with mechanical and electrical assembly.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency with hand tools.
Electro-mechanical system troubleshooting.
Proficiency with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Commitment to safety and quality.
Ability to identify business/process improvement opportunities and communicate them to team and management.
Ability to create and monitor team performance metrics.
Desire to work and contribute in a fast-paced, startup environment with daily changes.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and teamwork skills.
Exposure to CAD software (3D or 2D electrical).

Responsibilities

Brainstorm, trial, and implement continuous improvement projects to reduce build hours & defects.
Work within a multi-disciplinary team of manufacturing engineers, equipment engineers, and technicians to develop and qualify new manufacturing techniques and processes.
Document manufacturing systems downtime for frequency and duration. Troubleshoot and resolve downtime with a focus on continuous improvement.
Design, build, and commission electro-mechanical equipment and tooling for process and/or efficiency improvements.
Write and update process work instructions.
Troubleshoot and resolve nonconformances and production blockers.
Perform R&D and prototype hardware builds with minimal documentation and oversight. Use various mechanical and precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and hand tools.
Execute rapid prototyping using CAD / 3D Printing / ordering machined components.
Identify and address robot limit/excess travel issues; confidently use the pendant to safely reposition robots and make minor path adjustments with remote engineering support as needed.
Determine root cause for failures and propose changes with engineers on the team.
