Job summary

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) is seeking an skilled Electrician to perform installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment at an on-site location in the United States. You will work from blueprints and specifications, supervise helpers, and coordinate with the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

The role requires a strong understanding of National Electric Code, a California Driver License, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 4-year Journeyman experience or 5 years of direct electrical maintenance experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in electrical operations.
  • Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
  • California Driver License.
  • Asbestos awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of general electrical maintenance and repair operations.
  • Install, alter, maintain and repair wiring systems, equipment and fixtures such as switches, outlets, light fixtures, exhaust and circulation fans.
  • Install and make minor electrical repairs on electrical equipment such as panels, air conditioning units and water heaters.
  • Direct the work of assigned helpers and review progress.
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts and other specifications.
  • Plan and direct the work of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled laborers.
  • Locate and diagnose trouble in the electrical system or equipment.
  • May participate in on-call schedule.

Job description

Perform a variety of general electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution or utilization of electric energy. Performs skilled electrical tasks in accordance with the standard practices of the electrician trade. Assignments are received in the form of oral or written work orders and may be accompanied by plans and sketches. Possess the ability to work independently and determine work methods and proceed with little technical supervision. Complete installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures.

Reports to: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of general electrical maintenance and repair operations.
  • Install, alter, maintain and repair wiring systems, equipment and fixtures such as switches, outlets, light fixtures, exhaust and circulation fans, etc.
  • Install and make minor electrical repairs on electrical equipment such as panels, air conditioning units, water heaters and other facility related equipment.
  • Install and maintain electrical motors and generators, seats and replaces brushes, oils and cleans motors and perform other general electrical maintenance and repair operations.
  • Estimate time and materials required to complete a work order; requisitions material as necessary.
  • Direct the work of assigned helpers; make assignments and review work in-progress and completed.
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts and other specifications.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled laborers.
  • Locate and diagnose trouble in the electrical system or equipment.
  • Be familiar with the Quality Control/Customer Satisfaction Plan (QC/CSP) requirements and perform QC/CS actions as required.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • May be required to participate in on-call schedule.
  • Perform duties unrelated to the job classification as needed.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:
  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent and 4 year Journeyman credited experience required. May be substituted for 5 years of direct experience in general electrical maintenance and facility repair operations.
  • Experience:
  • General: Requires 2 year’s experience in electrical operations. Possess the ability to perform complex assignments, independence in carrying out tasks and responsibility for the final completion of work. Work involves installing or repairing a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems and other transmission equipment.
  • Specific:
  • Requires 2 year’s experience in electrical operations gained through a formal apprentice or training and experience. Work requires training and experience in general electrical operations. Work includes preventive maintenance activities, maintenance, repair of various equipment and structures. Possess specific knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures utilized in electrical operations. Need a good understanding of National Electric Code. May be required to read blueprints. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of tools, materials, methods and practices in general electrical operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrician trade.
  • Ability to perform a variety of general electrical work.
  • Ability to instruct and direct the work of unskilled and semi-skilled laborers.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, specifications and oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to make estimates of time and materials required to complete a work order.
  • Required Licenses and Certifications:
  • California Driver License.
  • Training Requirements.
  • Asbestos awareness.
  • Other training as required.
