Job summary

The Chillicothe City School District is seeking an Electrician on a 12-month contract to maintain and repair district electrical systems in occupied school facilities. Employment Status: 12-Month Contract

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least seven (7) years of electrical experience preffered, or a combination of education, training, and directly related experience sufficient to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
• Appropriate electrical journeyman license/certification or equivalent demonstrated commercial/industrial electrical experience. Additional related trade licenses or certifications preferred.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA requirements, and applicable Ohio and local building, electrical, and fire safety requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, specifications, and construction documents.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, students, administrators, contractors, inspectors, and vendors.
• Ability to organize work, prioritize assignments, solve problems, and work independently with limited supervision.
• Ability to use computers, email, electronic work-order systems, and other district technology necessary to document and complete assigned work.
• Satisfactory work record and demonstrated dependability.

General Description

Under limited supervision, performs skilled electrical installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance throughout district facilities and grounds. The Electrician supports safe and reliable operation of district electrical and related building systems while working in occupied school environments and complying with applicable codes, regulations, and district safety procedures.

Essential Knowledge And Skills

• Knowledge of commercial and institutional electrical systems, including planning additions or modifications to electrical circuits and equipment.
• Ability to use appropriate hand tools, power tools, meters, testers, and diagnostic equipment to install, troubleshoot, repair, replace, and test electrical systems and equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical safety procedures, including lockout/tagout practices, personal protective equipment, and safe work practices around energized equipment.
• Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, motors, motor control centers, generators, transformers, lighting systems, circuit breakers, panels, and related equipment.
• Ability to read commercial blueprints and apply NEC requirements to district maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction work.
• Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, receptacles, motors, controls, and other electrical equipment.
• Working knowledge of school-related electrical systems such as emergency lighting, exit signs, fire alarm components, security/access-control devices, intercom/PA systems, athletic/scoreboard systems, kitchen equipment, and other building systems as assigned.
• Ability to maintain accurate work orders, inspection records, service records, equipment information, and documentation of repairs.

Essential Functions

• Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams, schematics, specifications, and drawings to install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, service, or replace electrical and electronic devices and systems.
• Installs, maintains, repairs, and tests electrical panels, circuits, lighting, receptacles, switches, motors, controls, generators, transformers, and related equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance and routine inspections of district electrical equipment and systems and identifies conditions requiring repair or corrective action.
• Responds to electrical failures, power-related problems, safety hazards, and emergency maintenance situations; may be required to respond outside normal working hours when assigned.
• Performs assigned work in accordance with NEC, OSHA requirements, applicable Ohio and local codes, manufacturer specifications, and district safety procedures.
• Uses lockout/tagout procedures and appropriate personal protective equipment when required and maintains safe work areas, particularly when work is performed in occupied school buildings.
• Assists with the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of emergency lighting, exit signs, fire alarm electrical components, security/access-control systems, intercom/PA systems, and other district systems within the employee's training and assigned responsibilities.
• Coordinates electrical work with the Buildings and Grounds Department, building administrators, Technology, Transportation, Food Service, Athletics, and other district departments as necessary.
• Works cooperatively with outside contractors, vendors, utility providers, and inspectors; assists in reviewing or verifying electrical work performed for the district as assigned.
• Maintains appropriate inventories of electrical supplies, parts, tools, and equipment and assists with identifying and ordering needed materials.
• Completes work orders and maintains accurate records of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, materials used, and other required documentation.
• Travels between district facilities and transports tools, equipment, and materials necessary to complete assigned work.
• Secures tools, equipment, materials, and work areas to protect students, staff, visitors, and district property.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and/or District Administration.

Conditions Of Employment

• Possession and maintenance of a valid Ohio driver's license and ability to travel between district facilities.
• Must satisfy all criminal background check requirements applicable to employment by an Ohio public school district.
• Must maintain licenses, certifications, and safety training required for assigned duties.
• May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or respond to emergency situations outside the regular work schedule as assigned.

Working Conditions And Physical Effort

• Work is performed in and around occupied school buildings, mechanical/electrical rooms, construction or maintenance areas, rooftops, grounds, and other district facilities.
• Work may involve exposure to temperature extremes, dust, fumes, noise, chemicals, biohazard materials, energized electrical equipment, and other potentially hazardous conditions.
• Considerable physical activity is required, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50-75 pounds.
• Must be able to safely work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, rooftops, and other elevated locations and in confined or restricted work areas as required.
• Work requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to extensive safety precautions.
