Job summary

Hecla Mining Company is seeking a Mine Electrician to perform electrical repairs, installations, inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical lines, machinery and equipment throughout the Lucky Friday mine, both on the surface and underground.

The role requires a High School diploma and a Journeyman Electrician license (Idaho or reciprocal), with preference for prior mining experience and familiarity with high/medium/low voltage power distribution systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical repairs to ensure continuous operation of machinery and equipment.
• Install and commission high voltage underground/surface transformers, splices, boxes, switches.
• Troubleshoot and repair instrument and electrical equipment underground, in the Concentrator, and on the surface.
• Develop and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Work with electrical schematics and order materials; maintain logs and maintenance reports.
• Test repaired equipment and access equipment information via electronic devices.

Summary

The Mine Electrician will perform electrical repairs, installations, inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical lines, machinery and equipment throughout the Lucky Friday, both on the surface and underground.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform electrical repairs to provide continuous operation of machinery and equipment.
• Install and commission high voltage underground/surface transformers, splices, box's, switches.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose problems, and repair instrument & electric equipment underground, in the Concentrator, and on the surface.
• Participate in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as required.
• Work with electrical schematics.
• Order materials.
• Complete required maintenance reports and logs.
• Test all equipment repairs as applicable.
• Access equipment information using electronic devices (i.e., laptop computer, tablet).
• Use measuring equipment, including micrometers and calipers.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace.
• Comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations; conduct activities responsibly and minimize environmental impact.
• Follow and understand MSHA rules, environmental regulations, SOPs, and work area instructions; participate in safety and environmental activities; lead by example and ensure compliance established by the Mine Operations department.
• Work and communicate effectively with team members.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, especially Safety, Human Resources, and Environmental.
• Participate in Risk Assessment activities as required.
• Meet criteria established in the Maintenance Progression System (attached).

Education and/or Experience

High School graduate or equivalent.

Licensed as Journeyman Electrician in Idaho or a reciprocal state, or the ability to pass the Journeyman Electrical Licensing test in Idaho.

Previous Experience In a Mine Setting Preferred

Other Qualifications

ATF possessors clearance required.

Must complete MSHA 40‑hour training or provide 5000‑23 documentation of completed training.

Must pass physical and drug screen, and essential functions capacity test.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; communicate regularly. Must regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 125 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, underground work locations, work from heights, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. Noise level usually moderate. Position may require work on nights, weekends, and rotating shifts.
