Job summary

Georgia Tech, located in Atlanta, GA, is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to install, maintain, test and repair campus electrical distribution systems at Journeyman/Master level. The role requires coordination with engineers, contractors and state agencies, and may involve multi-craft tasks and overtime.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and six to eight years of related experience; an unrestricted State of Georgia Electrical License is preferred.

  • Coordinate activities with engineers, contractors and state agencies; provide input related to outages.
  • Obtain necessary materials and supplies; may include direct purchase from vendors if authorized.
  • Observe campus and industry safety procedures.
  • Perform non-electrical duties as directed within multi-craft environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Install, connect, test, maintain and repair campus electrical distribution system (primary and secondary voltage at the intermediate (Journeyman/Master) skill level . Includes building service, switchgear, generators, interior and exterior PLC lighting and fire alarms. May be required to coordinate work of contractor personnel as well as provide work direction regarding electrical systems to maintenance personnel and others. When working in multi-craft environment may be directed to assist others in non-electrically related duties. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: co-workers, building contact personnel, D&C staff, vendors, contractors, environmental health and safety personnel and utility providers. This position typically will advise and counsel: maintenance and Electrician I personnel. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive electrical maintenance to include operation, inspection, cleaning, maintaining and repairing, surveying and documenting components of campus electrical distribution system. System includes switch yards, manholes, and transformer vaults (primary and secondary voltages).
  • Install, maintain, repair and operate building electrical systems and components of campus high-voltage electrical distribution system.
  • Coordinate activities with engineers, contractors and state agencies. Provide input related to campus electrical power outages.
  • Obtain necessary materials and supplies; may include direct purchase from vendors if authorized.
  • Observe campus and industry safety procedures.
  • Perform non-electrical duties as directed within multi-craft work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements

High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Other Required Qualifications

Overnight travel required for project delivery; flexibility in on-site daily service delivery hours Degree or 2 years college course work in electrical (due to client shift schedules, project requirements).

Required Experience

Six to eight years of job-related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Unrestricted State of Georgia Electrical License; Those associated with obtaining an unrestricted State of Georgia Electrical License

Preferred Educational Qualifications

Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or two years college course work in electrical field

SKILLS

This job requires working knowledge of electrical systems at the intermediate level, National Electrical Code, building support/maintenance ,electronics, general construction, utilities, equipment installation, safety procedures, mathematics, reading prints, drawings and schematics, operation of machine tools, hand/power tools and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment.
