Job summary

Zachry Group is seeking a Journeyman Electrician I to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems in an industrial setting, including underground and above-ground work, while leading lesser skilled electricians to ensure a safe work environment. Qualifications include a Texas Journeyman or Apprentice license, ability to read prints/schematics, and thorough knowledge of hand tools and layout tools.

The role requires working at heights up to 300 ft.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of Electrician hand, power tools and layout tools.
  • Must have required tools.

  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to work 7 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all Zachry safety rules with oversight of co-workers to ensure compliance.
  • Follow direction from a Multi-Craft Electrician, General Foreman, Craft Superintendent, Site Superintendent and/or Project Manager.
  • Comply with Lock, Tag and Try work procedure; oversee co-workers within your area to ensure compliance.
  • Inspect all designated work areas for hazards.
  • Participate in Zachry Craft Advancement Program (ZCAP) for Electricians.
  • Perform detailed inspections on hand and power tools to ensure safe operation.
  • Examine blue prints, sketches, diagrams, and plans to locate circuits, outlets, and wiring.
  • Carry, cut, bend, and install conduit per NFPA 70 (NEC 2014) with oversight.
  • Pull cables and conductors through specified pathways per NFPA 70 (NEC 2014) with oversight.
  • Modify, fabricate and install cable trays per NFPA 70 (NEC 2014) with oversight.
  • Operate testing equipment to validate connections and circuit capability with oversight.
  • Inspect and test electrical equipment for safe operation and performance with oversight.
  • Install and maintain temporary power systems and distribution per NFPA 70 (NEC 2014).
  • Install and maintain grounding/bonding on equipment with oversight.
  • Terminate wire/cable to outlets, switches, breakers, panels and distributions with oversight.
  • Observe state and local electrical codes.
  • Lead Safety Task Assessment (STA) meetings.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Responsibilities

Responsible for complying with all Zachry and site specific safety rules with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance

  • Responsible for following direction from a Multi-Craft Electrician, General Foreman, Craft Superintendent, Site Superintendent and or Project Manager
  • Responsible for complying with the Lock, Tag and Try work procedure; this standard applies to the Sweeny Refinery, associated facilities, and outlying terminals. Will have over sight of co-workers within your area of responsibility to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for inspecting all designated work areas for hazards
  • Participate in and complete the Zachry Craft Advancement Program (ZCAP) for Electricians per Site established guidelines.
  • Responsible for performing detailed inspections on hand and power tools to ensure they are safe to operate and in proper working order
  • Responsible for the safe use of hand and power tools such as conduit benders, screwdrivers, pliers, knives, hacksaws, wire strippers and drills with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for examining blue prints, sketches, diagrams, building plans and specifications to determine locations of circuits, outlets, load centers, panel boards, wires, conduit, components and other equipment
  • Responsible for carrying, cutting, bending, connecting and installing conduit as defined in NFPA 70 (NEC 2014) with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for pulling cables and conductors through specified pathways as defined in NFPA 70 (NEC 2014) with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for the modification, fabrication and installation of cable trays as required and as defined in NFPA 70 (NEC 2014) with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for the safe operation of testing equipment to validate connections and ensure capability of circuits using such tools as clamp meters, ohmmeters, voltmeters and harmonics testers with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for the inspection and testing of all electrical equipment to ensure safe operation and to certify it is operating as intended with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for the safe installation and maintenance of temporary power systems and their distribution system as defined in NFPA 70 (NEC 2014) with direct over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for the installation and maintenance of the assured equipment grounding / bonding on equipment and facilities with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for terminating wire/cable to electrical equipment such as but not limited to outlets, switches, breakers, control panels, and distributions systems with over sight of co-workers to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for observing all state and local building / electrical codes
  • Responsible for leading the Safety Task Assessment (STA) meetings
  • Performs other duties as required

Physical demands and work environment
  • Physical demands: Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting. Will talk and hear to communicate. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools. May be required to lift, carry and move up to 25lbs. Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms. Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
  • Work environment: Will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot - cool/cold. Occasional rain. Will work at different elevations. Noise levels will be moderate to high. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools. People standing, walking, sitting, signaling and talking. Bells, whistles and alarms.
Qualifications

Certifications and / or Licenses Required* -

  • Be able to pass an EE-98J Journeyman State License in New Mexico
  • OTHER POSITION OR SITE REQUIREMENTS - MVR
