Job summary

Knight Electric, Inc. is seeking a Journeyman to perform electrical installation and service tasks, including conduit bending, wiring, and fixture installation, while reading blueprints and supervising apprentices. This traveling role covers projects nationwide across the United States.

The incumbent will mentor apprentices, ensure code compliance, and generate materials lists. Excellent problem-solving skills and strong safety awareness are essential for success on diverse job sites.

Qualifications

  • Must have current state Electrical Journeyman license.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • NFPA 70E Arc Flash Training certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install and connect control systems, power distribution systems, electrical switchgear, including components such as switchboards, panels, load centers, motor control centers, breakers, transformers, and disconnect switches.
  • Use multi-meters for measuring voltage, amperage, resistance, and more.
  • Diagnose, repair and resolve problems with circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Ensure all work complies with codes and safety regulations.
  • Perform layout for various tasks, including overhead and in-wall rough‑in.
  • Generate complete materials lists for assigned scopes of work.
  • Test and troubleshoot electrical systems. Test circuit continuity for compatibility and safety.
  • Maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Assist other employees as needed.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion for quality, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain good working relationships with team.

Job description

Journeyman - Distribution Systems - Traveling Nationwide

Perform electrical installation and service tasks to required specifications, including bending conduit, pulling wire, installing fixtures, devices, plates, switchgear, and branch circuits. Read and interpret blueprints and layout drawings. Mentor, direct, and supervise apprentices.

Location and Travel

This is a traveling role with projects in various locations throughout the US.

  • You can live anywhere in the United States, preference to Midwest and Southeast
Compensation and Benefits
  • $42.00 - $55.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and connect control systems, power distribution systems, electrical switchgear, including components such as switchboards, panels, load centers, motor control centers, breakers, transformers, and disconnect switches. Use multi-meters for measuring voltage, amperage, resistance, and more.
  • Connect branch circuits, feeders, and controls, including terminations, panels, and equipment.
  • Diagnose, repair and resolve problems with circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Ensure all work complies with codes and safety regulations.
  • Perform layout for various tasks, including overhead and in-wall rough‑in.
  • Generate complete materials lists for assigned scopes of work.
  • Test and troubleshoot electrical systems. Test circuit continuity for compatibility and safety.
  • Maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Assist other employees as needed.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion for quality, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain good working relationships with team.
  • Observe safe work practices and follow safety procedures. Assist team in maintaining a safe work environment. Implement safety procedures and precautions.
Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least four years in the electrical trade.
  • Current state Electrical Journeyman license.
  • Valid state‑issued driver's license.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of electrical theory, NEC and local codes
  • Ability to travel by car and plane, with overnight travel for extended periods of time.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Advanced knowledge of hand tools, testing equipment, and other commonly used trade equipment.
  • Good troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and diagnostics ability. Embrace quality control processes. Good attention to detail. Follow process and procedure.
  • Current OSHA 10 certification.
  • Current Elevated Work Platform certification preferred.
  • Current Lock Out/Tag Out Training certification preferred.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Current NFPA 70E Arc Flash Training certification preferred.

Requirements (Physical requirements will vary between job sites and peak periods)

This is a field job using many physical attributes. In addition to sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time, employees should be able to do the following:

  • Walk, climb, lift, bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, twist, and reach overhead routinely and repetitively. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly work from elevated spaces for extended periods of time, including ladders, man lifts, scaffolding, or reach booms. Climb ladder with 30 pounds.
  • Balance on normal work surfaces.
  • Comfortable in tight spaces (occasionally).
  • Reach, handle, grasp, and pull cables, wires, tools, and equipment.
  • Focus close up and far away (with or without correction). Distinguish color coded wires. Use peripheral vision and exercise depth perception.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and embraces change.
  • Good troubleshooting ability. Embraces quality control processes. Good attention to detail. Follows process and procedure.
  • Speaking, hearing and seeing for communicating with employees and outside resources, as well as managing risks of a construction environment is required.

Working Conditions

Work is performed on construction sites in a variety of weather conditions. Travel nationwide, up to 100%, sometimes with short notice (non‑travelling short‑term jobs are available from time to time depending on project availability). Shifts and hours vary by project but will include night and weekend shifts.
