Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking an Electrician to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems across city buildings and facilities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and city codes for safe, reliable service.

You will read blueprints, perform preventive maintenance, and supervise apprentices while responding to on-call emergencies in a dynamic municipal setting. Opportunities exist for growth and specialization within the Public Works department.

Qualifications

• Valid Texas driver’s license with good driving record.
• State of Texas Journeyman Electrician's License.
• May be subject to evening and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

• Performs electrical work in installation, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits.
• Troubleshoots electrical and electronic apparatus, motors, controls, and equipment using schematics.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains control circuits, lighting circuits, motors, and switch gear.
• Inspects systems to identify hazards and ensure compliance with electrical codes; tests circuits.
• Documents maintenance and repair activities; trains apprentices or helpers.
• Performs preventive maintenance and pulls/lays wires per diagrams.
• Reads blueprints or diagrams to determine locations and compliance.
• Performs related trades work as needed.
