Job summary

Luminant Power LLC is seeking an experienced maintenance technician to ensure safe, environmentally compliant operation of our facility. The role covers high voltage equipment, electrical controls and process instrumentation, with a focus on reliability and safety.

Candidate will perform troubleshooting, repairs and major maintenance projects, and will work with contractors as needed. Requires at least five years in power generation maintenance and strong safety culture.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent technical training.
  • Minimum of five years maintenance experience in power generation or similar industrial facilities.
  • Must have basic math skills and good verbal communication.
  • Must know Safety and Environment rules related to electrical maintenance.
  • Must contribute positively to maintenance, operations and management teams.
  • Familiarity with CMMS; Maximo preferred.
  • Experience with POSS/MASS program is required for consideration.
  • Experience with machinery repair and control systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, maintain and repair electrical equipment and controls across HV to LV systems.
  • Evaluate protection schemes, monitoring equipment, pneumatic controls and alarms.
  • Troubleshoot plant electrical and process control systems; diagnose equipment faults.
  • Read and interpret diagrams, protection schemes, P&IDs and vendor manuals.
  • Participate in major maintenance projects; oversee contractor activities during repairs.
  • Work safely at heights and confined spaces, using PPE and SCBA as required.

This position is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of the facility.

Job Description
Key Accountabilities
  • This includes evaluating, maintaining and repairing (low, medium, high voltage) breakers, switch gear, switch yards, motor control centers, AC & DC motors, electrical disconnect, transformers, lighting panels, HVAC UPS, batteries, charger, inverters and VFD (120Volt AC to 345KVAC).
  • Evaluate, maintain, and repair electrical equipment & controls, relay protection schemes, electrical monitoring equipment, pneumatic controls, valve operators and controls, ignition systems, various operating gauges, instruments, PLC’s and alarms.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair plant electronic, pneumatic systems, analyzers, facility computers, process control equipment and instrumentation.
  • Perform trouble-shooting activities on all plant electrical equipment. Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose problems in systems, read and interpret online diagrams, electrical protection scheme, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and vendor service manuals.
  • Participate in major maintenance projects, including equipment overhauls and removal and replacement of major units and parts. Inspects and monitors work of third-party contractors during major equipment repair or installation.
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 80 feet and more; crawl to the through confined areas; correctly wear and work using self-contained breathing apparatus
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED, trade school, related military service training programs, or technical training school programs required.
  • Minimum of five years maintenance experience in power generation facilities or similar industrial facilities and field preferred.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must have knowledge of Safety and Environment rules as they relate to electrical maintenance
  • Must provide positive influence to the maintenance, operations, and management team.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS. Familiarity with Maximo preferred.
  • Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems preferred.
  • All applicants must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program in order to be considered a candidate for this position. POSS / MASS exams are administered on an as-needed basis by Human Resources and all communication concerning the testing is sent to the candidate’s email address provided during the application process.

Experience working on voltages up to 4160v, preferred

Experience working on transmitters, valve actuators/positioners, control systems a plus
